Hey all! new notebookreview member, been reading for a long while though. I'm also a new HP DV600t owner.

I did a fresh install of XP Pro on a new Seagate 7200 rpm HD i got. Everything went perfectly smooth, thanks to a little help from these forums.

Only thing is that always when i startup windows, after the desktop loads, its like the ethernet hangs for about a minute and a half. everything else works okay but the ethernet.

I have a ppoe connection that i have to click to connect with. if i click on my little shortcut, everything pretty much stalls until the ethernet gets "initialized" (i guess thats what it would be". then i see my little connection icon in my tray, and the login screen for my ppoe comes up.

also, along with this, Mcaffe wont load completely until the etherent initialzes. it starts, and then the red Mcafee icon goes black until the ethernet becomes ready.

I dont have this problem with the wireless, but i have wireless completely disabled unless i'm usling it.

Another thing worth mentioning, i am always plugged straight into my DSL modem.

And if i dont have the ethernet cable connected to the laptop, i dont get the hang.

If anyone can help, you would actually helping me solve this on 3 laptops! my wife AND brothers laptops do the same thing! they have Dell's though. my wife is unaffected because its a work notebook that always uses wireless there.

Thanks so much! sorry for the long post!

I think i may have figured out my problem lol.

At least on my wifes Dell 710M anyway. I went into the ethernet cards properties and turned off "wake on LAN". it doesnt hang anymore on boot up with the cable plugged in.

This doesnt use a ppoe connection however, its plugged into a router. but, it looks promising.

Scratch that idea. plugged into a router that auto logins the ppoe, it doesnt matter what the wake up capabilities are.

    ok, please help lol.
