So I ordered my new dv9000t the other day so that I could get XP installed with the option of Vista upgrade. Of course this morning I logged on to the HP and Costco site and found a free few upgrades that were not offered when I ordered....but I am not sure there is anything I can do because a similiarly configured machine (except the upgrades) is about $250 more than I paid 4 days ago....
But I can't help wondering if I timed my purchase right. For example, besides the free upgrade to 120GB from 80GB now offered... the TV tuner (which I got "free" but is no longer free) is now digital instead of only anaog.

In short that feeling after ordering any kind of computer is perfectly normal.
All in all you saved $250.00 bucks and only got 40 GB less space (which shouldn't matter if you need more space can upgrade the HD yourself) and missed out on a digital TV Tuner you would have had to pay for, yet instead you got for free. (Even though it lacks digital) -

Buying a new laptop a few weeks or month before the vista models rolls out might not have been the best decision, but if you're happy with it, enjoy

do you guys know if the new Santa Rosa chip set is worth waiting another month or so for? Will HP jump on the bandwagon quickly?

If you are prone to wishing you had waited when newer or cheaper alternatives are released, you may want to do yourself a favor and stop watching the changes for a while
. Something more powerful and lower priced will always be on the horizon.
I think your decision to buy was sound. You get what you need with the bonus of an extra OS for free--with the option to switch to Vista at your leisure, and on your terms. Unless Santa Rosa offers something that you really need, the current chipset will be enough for the vast majority of users out there for the life of their current notebooks--and Centrino Pro notebooks won't be available for some time yet. -
i have learned one valuable lesson throughout buying my laptop: there will always be a newer, cheaper, and better version that will come out right after you buy. You can never avoid this, and you can never buy at the right time.
I was expecting to buy my laptop around Christmas time, and i ended up buying my laptop now. I actually wish that i would have boughten asap. Now that i just bought it, i wish i should have waited, yet i wish i didnt. Its very hard and confusing trying to buy at the right time, so i think you should just buy your laptop asap. -
Matt you are so correct, but this happens with pretty much al lelectronics...escpecially iPods since theres a new one every 4 months or so.
-
yeah im not really into ipods, im a psp-fanatic!
-
Sure you can upgrade to Vista later, but I'm sure the newer laptops will have better integrated graphics, lower power usage/better batteries, more Ram capabilities, and I'm sure a few other changes... plus the fact that models for sale today are using the same tech and setup as ones over a year ago.
-
yeah but we are talking about hp laptops, and if you go to their site, gpu didnt change, power usage didnt change, ram didnt change.... it just got more expensive, less choices, and it comes with vista... thats it
-
-
Yeah i inputed the config of my dv9000t into it now and it is more expensive now, and I never got the built in webcam or the tv tuner..
-
when i put the same specs that i got, it was a bit cheaper... kinda weird... the only difference is that it dosent come with a tv tuner... i guess thats y but i never wanted that in the first place... but also there is no mail in rebate...
Ever get that "Did I time this right" feeling after ordering your laptop?
