I have a brand new dv6500se that came with a high capicity 6 cell battery. According to RightMark CPU Clock Utility, under Battery device, it lists the following:

    Designed Capacity: 88800mWh
    Fully Charged Capacity: 78144mWh

This seems like a large discrepancy for a brand new battery. My question is, for all of you that own a High Capicity 6 cell battery, what does RM Clock tell you about your Designed and Fully Charged Capacities? It would be a great to get a good number of responses, so we can get a feel what average should be expected.

On both my original HP 6-cell & 12-cell batteries the designed capacity shows 88000 mWh. The fully charged capacity shows 46886 mWh (14 months old) and 121715 mWh (4 months old) respectively.
Clearly the electronics in the batteries are the same and they dont bother with accuracies, so I wouldn't trust the reported numbers either. I think the fully charged capacity is calculated when you condition the battery so you might want to do that and check again if you feel its important to you.

Ok, anyone else? Is there any other program that gives better accuracy?

Please check your batteries guys. I have three dv6500se notebooks and they have different Fully Charged Capacities: 74155 and 78133, and 72461. These numbers stay with each battery. So if I remove one battery and place it into another notebook, the number will follow it. I'm not sure how the program is getting these numbers. But they certainly aren't random.

If we get more responses, we can have a better idea what the number should be.

Keep in mind that you're not just getting a "new" battery. You're getting a battery that has been sitting around during manufacturing so technically when it arrives to your house, it isn't "brand new".

I have a similar thread in the Dell forums. After about a month of usage, I wanted to know my battery wear level. 32 days gave me about a 7% wear level, and I am going to monitor it one more month before I really make a complaint.

hey dude did you try calibrating your battery. That is required to be done evenbefore you use the notebook for the first time. B-Coz from time to time the value shown by softwares differ. hp advises a monthly calibration of the battery.

Well I have a 6 cell and it says that I have 88000 Designed but fully charged is at 52096mWh.... I get about 1.5 hours of battery on power saved with most services turned down and very clean. Running barely any HP stuff left on it and made custom drivers for most of the hardware. Graphic card included.

NBR Team and you are asking this question?

Anyway, HP says to create a power profile called Callibrate. Set the option for critical battery action to do nothing (in advanced power settings). Run the battery to 0%; the PC will of course power off. Then charge the battery from 0% up to 100%. HP recommends that this is done every month.
