I hope this question hasn't been asked.... My son has a HP Pavillion with the extended warranty.... This laptop was purchased at Best Buy in Toronto....He got the extra 1 year extended warranty when he purchased it in November 2006...
In early October he was having issues with it shutting down... He took it to best buy and they sent it to HP... He got it back 3 weeks later and within 2 days, it was shutting down again.... This time before he could type in his password...Back to best buy he went and they reformatted it.... That was last Monday... He got it home, and it was shutting down again within 45 minutes of being online..... He took it again Tuesday to best buy and they sent it back to HP yet again.... He is hopefully going to pick it up tommorow (Monday)... The problem is, his extended warranty is going to expire on Tuesday...
Does anyone know what can be done about this??? By now, HP know's there's a problem and certainly best buy does also....This has gone on for a month.... I am just afraid he will get it home and within a day or 2, the same problem will happen and he won't have it under warranty anymore.... He can't really afford to buy another warranty at this time....
Thanks...

Did best buy tell you what kind of warranty service HP has done so far? It sounds like at this point, maybe a motherboard replacement would be a good universal fix.
But without knowing more details about the problem, other than just "shutting down", it's hard to say what it could be exactly.
A little word of advice if I may, next time purchase directly from the manufacturer and get a 3 year warranty through them, not a brick and mortar store.
It might help to not only be able to directly deal with the manufacturer in case something comes up (eliminating the middle man), but brick and mortars typically overcharge on their warranties (they make a lot of money on extended warranty plans).
Also, you can usually find better deals with the manufacturer, like HP or Dell. Sometimes they have good online coupons too. -
Well they have replaced the motherboard and are now replacing it again.... And they are also suppose to check the fan.... I am really more concerned at this point about the warranty running out Tuesday and the problem possibly not being fixed AGAIN...

Whenever HP does a repair, they usually enclose a 90 day extension to warrant those repairs. If you would have dealt directly with HP, they might have replaced your laptop for free. I had a problem in the past with a HP notebook and after the third failed attempt of repair, they sent me an upgraded CTO notebook with a free extended warranty of 4 years (including ADP).

It could be anything, but if he's a student, I'd venture to say that nearly 2 years out of a system is a good run. Not saying your son does, but I think many students don't exactly take the best care of their systems.
Sorry I can't be of more help. -
No my son is not a student and has been very careful with the laptop.... It doesn't even have a scratch on it....
I did make a mistake in my inital post... First they changed the screen when best buy sent it to HP, next the guy at best buy reformatted, now it's back at HP to fix the motherboard and fan.... And it ran fine until October... -
