I was wondering which DVD writers you guys would recommend. I have a ZX5000 with a DVD/CDRW Drive. All of my previous CDRW Drives have been HP and I've never had any problems so I'm going to stick with them. My price range is from $150-$200. I was looking at the External HP DVD Movie Writer DC3000. Price is $179. I never burned DVD's yet so I'm just wondering if this is a good writer because I hear a lot of ppl have problems burning. Thanks in advance.

If you don't mind the bezel not matching, swapping in a new internal DVD burner is easy. You can get Toshiba 4X dual-format burners from ultradrives.com (which I did, nice folks) or Panasonic 4X slot-loading burners from newegg.com, both are under $150 with shipping. If the Panasonic had been available at the time I'd have gone with that. The drive will be recessed about 3/8ths of an inch into your case because you'll lose the very thick curved bezel the original drive has in favor of a normal/flat one. It works out pretty well.
You can get faster external drives, but 4X is pretty decent. -
I'm only looking for an external DVD drive so I can bring it to a friends house and rip all there DVD's =). Plus I would like to use it on my desktop at home.

Have a look at the http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=61 forums.
I am about to receive my internal 16x NEC ND-3500A and an external enclosure sold seperately nd put them together to make an external DVD writer. Cheaper and faster than getting an external drive off the shelf.
