I had a problem with my 2.5'' external hdd when it working with my hp laptop.
My HP laptop specs are listed on my signature.

My external hdd suddenly off (the power LED light was suddenly off, and stop spinning the hdd too) while transferring file from hdd to pc or the other way. But it was running well sometime, and it is also running well with my desktop PC.

I will appreciate your reply asap. Thank you.

Have you tried plugging it in with a USB Hub or another computer? It may be a USB power issue

I havn't sofar I have seen this problem in alot of the HP/Compaq models If you can run your computer on AC power while using the external as this seems to clear up the problem 80% of the time, if not try running through a powered USB hub. I t seems lately quite a number of external drives are pulling more current than the laptop USB ports can provide alone on battery power ( and occasionally on AC as well )

Yea my older 500 GB Seagate Pro never has any power issues plugged in or not, in a powered USB hub or not, but my newer TB Seagate Freeagent Extreme is always turning on and off, disk spinning and slowed access time because of this. I think I'll try out the powered USB hub for awhile and see how it does there instead of my HP Quick dock. Probably some setting on the TB one that I need to set.
