Just bought a dv5 recently... the internal mic works fine, but I'd like to disable it and use a pair of HP headphones with a built in mic. I plug it in, and it doesn't work. I've fiddled with all of the settings a million times, the volume, enabled/disabling devices... using the windows default sound mixer options as well as the IDT program to change around stuff. Nothing will get this bloody external microphone to work

Do you have it plugged in the right input in the back? Or could hte mic just be defective?

The jack is in the front of the laptop and clearly labelled... I really doubt the mic itself is defective
