    Okay,

So im in skype, taking a call, and my buddy on the other end says that the integrated mic sucks because he can hear me typing (really loud!) even though i just gently press the buttons on the keyboard.

I have a little external mic ( Mini Clip-on Microphone), that i use with my desktop, but when i plug it in the headphone/mic jack = no sound. I'v been under every option in Windows now and i still can't seem to get any sound what so ever out of it. Not a thing. Why make a headphone/mic jack if it dosent work only with a mic!?!?

Have had the laptop for a week, and besides it getting relativly hot b/c of the i7, though great gaming performance, no problem so far. Did a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate and installed the Beats drivers/IDT.

    Help :(

You have to set it to mic mode, but you can if all else fails get a usb microphone, it will probably be better quality anyways.

your mic doesn't sux... its just picking up the noise from your room... if you go into skypes audio options you can change the amount of noise you want going though your mic

The Envy 14 uses a 4 section mike plug so a normal 3 section (T-R-S)
plug will not work ! Both mike and headset audio are on the same plug.
The HP manual shows a 3 section plug on page 83 but this is wrong !
HP Tech support was not aware of this error and have referred it to the deparment that issues the documents.
In order to make a normal mike work on that unit you will need an adapter cable available from Headst Buddy in Texas $14.95 each plus shipping.
This cable has a 4 section 3.5 mm plug on one end and two 3 section TRS jacks on the other end.
My unit was purchased at Future shop and they are not aware of this problem and even replaced the computer, but it had the same problem.
