    Hey guys,

I have connected my monitor to an external monitor. It works fine. Only problem I have ( and a little irritating one) is that the external monitor picks up display only after Windows is loaded. Pre-OS screens like BIOS settings, GRUB loader (I have Installed Linux ) doesn't show up)

Is this an issue with BIOS? Because, when I connect HP dv6000 to my monitor, I can see the BIOS screen as well. I am sure the problem is not with the monitor.

The BIOS is responsible for detecting displays before the OS is loaded right? I checked BIOS settings and there is nothing to indicate the display ports/devices (however, this page on HP website shows a BIOS screen "Advanced" which apparently has those settings)

Does any one have this problem? Or has anyone solved this thing?

    -Karthik

    Karthik,
What computer are you using? My DV9500T has the same "problem" your describing. No video until the operating system (Windows, or Linux) loads. Even the Windows boot loader doesn't show.

i think this is normal and I dont think there is any way to fix it (without doing some major bios mods)

I agree with you. The BIOS probably only shows it on the primary display and not the secondary one plugged in.

So it seams. One more thing -

How wicked is the idea to replace the current BIOS with another compatible BIOS? or isn't there any generic BIOS that works on a particular genre of notebook boards? If the idea is too wicked, I will probably make peace with my situation!! :(

And thanks for the replies.. :)
