Just hooked up a Dell 30inch monitor that I was left for me by a friend. I have it being hooked up through the HDMI port which then goes to a HDMI to DVI-D converter. I am using it right now and it is just HUGE...and awesome. Anyway the only problem I am having is that I can't make it go to any higher resolution than what the laptop supports itself so right now stuck on something like 1280x800 or whatever it is.

How can I make it go to a higher resolution. I will use the laptops resolution for video games but I would like to use a higher resolution for desktop work and such.

    Any help is appreciated..

    Thanks!

What is your Dell 30" model? If you are in Windows 7, right-click the desktop and click Screen Resolution (before doing this, make sure the monitor is connected properly). You will see a list of resolutions for both the Dell Screen (probably Screen #2) and your laptop screen itself. Set a higher resolution for the Dell 30", if does not work (it will revert to default in 15 seconds).

It is the 3007 model. It gives no options to higher than the 1280x800

If you go here, you will find that the native resolution is 2560x1600. The problem might be that the converter does not support such a high resolution. If that is not the case, then your graphics (integrated or discrete) might not support high resolutions.

Are you running external display in clone mode? Choose extend or external only and try different resolutions then.
