Has anybody installed Intel Extreme QX9300 CPU on a HP DV5T?
    Does the DV5T support 8 GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 RAM?
    Is the DV5T overclockable?
Has anybody overclocked the CPU on DV5T?

What is the highest 3DMark06 score on a DV5T?

    Thanks.

That is a bad idea - only because of the power and thermal requirements of a quad core are much higher than what most 15" laptops can support.

I have been running X9000 on a 15” Dell XPS M1530 for a while now without any issues. As long as you monitor the CPU and GPU temperatures, I don’t see why there should be any issues with running QX9300 on a HP DV5T (off course if the BIOS supports such a CPU).

Does the DV5T BIOS support QX9300 cpu?
    Are the DV5T’s overclockable?

    No dv5t doesn't support ddr3 ram.
    No it's not overclockable.
Check Chaz's review on the dv5t for the 3dmark06 score.

Why doesn’t it support DDR3 RAM? The Montevina board supports DDR3 RAM so is it the BIOS of DV5t holding it back?

Can’t the GeForce 9600M GT be overclocked by using Riva Tuner?

I believe the Montevina platform can be configured with either DDR2 or DDR3 -- it depends on the manufacturer of the motherboard and what that manufacturer decides. 8 GB is definitely supported though.

As for the overclocking, I don't think the GeForce 9600M GT can be overclocked since it is "hard-locked." Given the thermal limitations of the dv5t, it wouldn't be a good idea to overclock....and it would probably void the warranty anyway.

if thermal issue negates the quadcore installation, then in a d7t would it work right? considering the d7t more wide chassis than the 5t?

Thanks for all the inputs but I think some of the information provided in this thread is Wrong. I will know the truth in a month, I guess.

I don’t see why DV5t would not work with a QX9300 CPU? Actually QX9300 runs a little cooler than X9100.

Almost all of the NVidia GeForce series offered in laptops are overclockable with Riva Tuner. Even the old GeForce cards like the 6800 series are overclockable. And I don’t see why and how HP would put a lock on the 9600M GT.

Regarding the RAM, I’m almost positive that the DV5t supports 8 GB of RAM. Again, I’m almost positive that it will support 1066 MHz DDR3 RAM. That’s why the FSB of the PM 45 board is built that way.

In the XPS forums, users start to modify and overclock their laptops from day 2, with all kinds of threads about overclocking the GPU, taking the laptop apart to find the PLL numbers needed to overclock the CPU, etc. However, I don’t see any threads about people running Extreme CPU’s, overclocking the GPU’s, etc. in DV5t forums. I think the DV5t has great potential with the PM 45 board and GeForce 9600M GT display card. People need to try pushing it to see what it’s really capable of.

Correction. I saw a screenshot of Riva Tuner on DV5t and the overclock feature was locked. So I guess, you can not overclock the 9600M GT with the available software. Maybe, there is a way to unlock the overclock feature of the 9600M GT?
