Guyz, I have HP HDX16 for 2 years now. And lately it's starting to go really hot. I cannot type on it anymore, have to use ext keyboard cause my hands are sweating.

I've cooling pad with 2x coolers on the bottom. But it doesn't seem to help. Laptop fan itself seems to go in lazy mode, I rarely here it go 100% which is weird cause laptop is burning!

I tried to put my hand on the output side of the laptop cooler, and I don't feel any air coming out of it...

    What are my options?

I was thinking to first try to clean it... (instruction manual? I searched everywhere, cannot find guide how to clean vents of this model).

Another option would be just to mod it, crap open case, cut out hole and remove extra plastic and put extra cooler on gpu... but since I didn't look inside YET I've no idea if this is feasibly...

but maybe someone here has tried this... please help!

I had an HDX16, just sold mine but I had it for two years too and mine did get very hot as well, not that I couldn't touch it but it got VERY warm especially when gaming on it. Now I know that mine had a lot of dust in the intake fan, I don't know how much it was affected by it cos the laptop got really warm since the day I got it and what I've read now 2 years later it had some heating issues that model (someone else could confirm or kill that) but I read about it. I would try to clean it from dust since you say you can't feel any air coming out there must be something stopping it from coming out. So I'd give that a try first of all, hope you'll get it to cool down :)

Not sure, but you can probably find some if you google it or maybe try checking HP's site :)

I tried :) very little info on this model.

Is there a way to check fan speed? cause I've feeling laptop calculates temps incorrectly and spins down fan...

I can hear fans go wild while bios update for example - meaning fans aren't dead, they just not seem to work on full load...

I only know some programs to check the temps, but SpeedFan (judging by the name) might be able to check some more, I know there's more to that program than just checking temps cos I've used it but I never used it for more then just checking temps, maybe you could try it. And since there's no Coolsense thing in the HDX that can't be the problem to let's say the fans are suddenly not working fully.. Hmm well I'm gonna do some research too for you, I'll get back if I find something useful :)

Found something, first HWmonitor might be something to use not sure only saw it in a old thread here when I searched on google.

And then I found this How to Adjust Laptop Fan Speed | eHow.com Might be something to use if you go trough the steps.

    Hope it'll solve :)

Thanks! I tried that fanspeed, but it doesn't support hp laptops :) anyways, its a nice program at least to see temperatures.

btw, I flushed bios with newer version and cooler seems to be more busy... but it only seems as temps are still high.

I'm openning it up on weekend.

Make sure you have some thermal paste, since it's better to replace it when you open the laptop anyways. Also open the fan assembly totally to clean it. You'll understand what I mean, when you get to it :)

What temps do you get when just idling and let's say do more demanding things, I could compare it to the temps I got, I still remember slightly what temps I had on my HDX.
