Whenever I load a DVD into the drive of my HP DV7 it makes an extremely LOUD noise and vibrates when on a hard surface. This is very irritating and I almost wet my pants the first time I heard it. Does anybody know how to fix this?

    Thanks.

All notebook drives will make some sound as they spindle up, that just is how it is. This spindling up procedure will also cause some slight noticeable vibration as well.

However, if you feel the vibration is more than it should be, I would recommend loosing the screws that hold the optical drive, pull out the drive, re-seat the drive thoroughly, and then re-tighten the screws and double check that they are very secure. Be careful not to tighten to much and strip the screws though. Usually, you will find that a loose screw is leading to more vibration when the drive spindles up, which, in turn, causes extra or excess noise.

If it was just a minor occurance, I would still recommend double checking to make sure the screws are tight to be safe.

Also, certain discs will be louder than others, particularly ones where the center hole is slightly off-center.
