Does anyone have a problem when they attempt to use QPD on battery with the latest BIOS? I finally got QPD, XP and Vista to make nice together, but whenever I tried to run QPD, the DVD would freeze or BSOD (usually on nv4_disp) within 10 minutes.
This only occurred when running on battery. On AC it works fine. After a piss load of restores and verbally abusing my nb, I narrowed the problem down to the F.27. Doesn't make a difference which version of QP you run (2.1 or 2.3 w/patches), it will still lock up. Reverting to the F.1A makes everything nice again. It may also be the reason HP doesn't ship QPD with the Vista machines since they're loaded with the new BIOS, although that's just a WAG.
Maybe someone who has updated to F.27 and still has QPD active can verify my conclusion. If you do have the problem and can't get a copy of the F.1A, let me know and I'll upload it.

Quickplay Direct. On nbs loaded with XP it allows you to play a DVD or music without booting into Windows. Well, sort of. QPD uses Windows PE, I think, which has a much smaller footprint than XP. HP claims that you can't run QPD on their nbs preinstalled with Vista, which is partly true since they come with the updated BIOS, but I've managed to get it to work(Win XP on C, Vista on D).
The only issue is the BIOS. I can't find a blurb on what exactly HP did to the F.27, so I'm not sure what I'm missing when I run Vista with the F.1A. I THINK it's a power management issue, but until someone posts the mods made, I'm in the dark. I've had no problems so far... -
Yeah, I think they removed the QPD booting functionality using the Quickplay button from the latest Vista supported BIOS. On my V3000z with the latest BIOS(F22) I couldnt boot into QP. It drove me nuts for a few days thinking something hosed my QP partition. I reinstalled, reformatted Windows and it still wouldnt boot until I reverted back to F13. They dont mention this in the release notes for the BIOS but part of the support for Vista involves disabling QPD button from booting into QPD.

It's interesting to note though that when I sent my nb in for repairs (Feb 1-4), they (HP support) had reflashed from the F.27 back to F.1A. Didn't think much of it at the time so I just reflashed it back to F.27 on the 5th. In hindsight, I supposed they just wanted to forestall any problems I might have later on. I just wished they would have noted on the dl page that there's an issue with QPD.
Now the only problem is what exactly did they do for Vista on the F.27 and can you live without it.
F.27 BIOS (DV6000Z) and Quickplay Direct issue?
