I have owned a Compaq F759WM Laptop for about 6 months and love it. It's a fantastic machine with decent performance and has been very quiet. This model has the TK-57 CPU with the Geforce 7000M GPU. My OS has been Windows XP Pro.

Recently I replaced XP with Vista 64 bit and my only complaint is the system fan tends to run longer when the machine comes out of standby.

Then yesterday I installed "Essential System Updates for Microsoft Windows Vista" and didn't really notice much of a difference expect the fan seems to run a bit more.

This morning I upgraded the BIOS from F07 to F08. After doing the BIOS, I noticed the fan now runs for extended periods of time (cycling on and off at very high fan speeds) and the exhaust air temperature is "significantly" hotter than it's ever been.

My suspicions are that the thermal settings (and perhaps the CPU/GPU clock speeds as well) were altered in the F08 bios and perhaps even by the ESU package (SP37736.exe).

After going back to the F07 BIOS, the fan is back to running all the time but at very low settings. The exhaust temperature is now back to normal as well.

Has anyone had similar experiences or have an explaination for what changed in these updates?
