This has been posted before, about the volume control starting to move erratically after using the Quick Touch volume controls. The volume level will keep ticking up/down irregularly but continuously.

Some people posted about uninstalling drivers and re-installing them again with no effect. Others talked about how it would seem to go away for a while then return.

I have been using my dv5t for nearly 4 years without this problem. Then one day after I replaced the keyboard, I used the quick touch volume control and this problem started. I didn't immediately make the keyboard connection. I had done some updates and figured a driver was compromised, so I went through the tedious procedure of uninstalling, re-installing, uninstalling again, then installing earlier releases just to see if that might help.

The culprit? The quick touch speaker bezel itself. Somehow, it wasn't clamped down 100% when I put it back into position (as part of the keyboard installation process). There was a little bit of play in it around the center. I pressed down on it and heard a "click". Problem went away. The wiring shouldn't be affected by this. All I could figure is that the actual stress on the bezel somehow disturbs the quick touch controls. Once snapped into place, it then lays perfectly flat and the stress is gone.

Anyway, I figured I should post about this given how I hadn't seen anyone else mention this as a possible cause. Hopefully if someone runs into this, they'll find this posting and be able to fix it... IF the cause is due to the bezel. It's possible that it could also be due to other causes, depending upon the scenario.
