I had my new HP dv7 for a month. In the beginning, I was getting 45-50 fps on high setting while playing Starcraft 2. Now I am only getting 15-20 fps. I did not install anything new. I checked my windows startup programs and they are all legit. CPU idles at 0-1%. What is going on?? Do I need to send this back?

Clean out your vents.
-
tried that....same thing. the vents are pretty clean to begin with.
-
Are the switchable graphics on?
-
Check your power plans. When you're on battery it won't run as fast as it would with the ac adapter attached.

XDViPeR - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
My wife was using the laptop on the couch the other day and battery was running out. I told her to switch the power plan to Balanced to prolong battery life. And I completely forgot to switch it back to High Performance afterward. Thanks again. I feel like such a noob. Hope this helps other.
I am now now getting 40-50 fps on High setting. -
Classic. Be there. Done that. lol

Haha, all in a days work. It happened to me as well, when COD Modern Warefare first came out, and I had my inspiron 1520 with the 8600GT M, off course a powerful card back in the day, I left it on "Power Saver" and it would lag really bad, a restart and a power plan check, got me back in the game haha.

Sorry guys for reviving an old thread, but what settings do you guys recommend I play starcraft 2 on with my dv6tqe? I have the 6770.
-
I have the dv7tqe with the 6770 and I play with EVERYTHING on ultra in native resolution
-
I dont recommend this unless you like playing at 25 fps... Here are the settings I recommend... I can easily get 40 FPS using this and it never dips under 30 even in huge 4v4 battles with maxed armies...

100 percent agree with beaverrat...playing on ultra is doable but it won't make you competitive. You should try high/medium settings to ensure lag is minimal.
-
i play with textures on medium and graphics on low w/ v-sync on and it locks it at 60 in 1v1s (what i mostly play) and in 4v4s it'll lock it at 30fps mid-game and on
i COULD play it at higher settings but im just used to the way it looks at lower graphics from my old desktop -
I just overclock my 6770 and play everything at ultra minus shaders. I've played 4v4 like this and it does drop, but the game is only as fast as the slowest player and I'm never THAT person to slow down the game due to lag.
-
What do you guys think of GameBooster? Does it make a significant difference?
-
On ultra, I dont seem to have any issues at all, but then again, I haven't played any bigger matches yet
