I have also posted this the lounge, sorry for duplication - wanted to get best exposure to ongoing issue. Really frustrating.

    My machine is:

HP Envy 17 notebook 2101ea with the following specs:
    Windows 7 64-bit S.Pack 1
    Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz (8 CPUs)
    6144MB RAM
    HD6850M 1GB
    Driver: 8.911.1.0

I am afraid trying to play Battlefield 3, and not getting good FPS at all.
(I know it is a laptop!! - as I have been told elsewhere).
I am only getting an average of 30fps on low settings and low resolution.

When via the console I check the graph showing live CPU/GPU usage, and the CPU seems to constantly rising in the graph. Is it likely the CPU is the problem, not the GPU.

Am a tech noob, so not sure how to check temps etc...please help - as really friustrating - has been going on for ages.

Not sure if I have to look at my graphics drivers, bios or give up !!!.

    Thanks in advance.

download HWMonitor to check your temperatures. anything below 85C is okay (the cooler, the better). also, make a file named user.cfg in the same folder as bf3.exe and put the following line in it:
    WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable 0

what are your Battlefield 3 settings and resolution?
what is the fps you're getting? you can see that by pressing the ~ key and typing the following command in the in-game console: Render.DrawFps 1

Check your power plan options - if you are running on either HP Recommended or Power Saver, it might be throttling your CPU.

    Try adjusting More Power Options:

High Performance setting -> Maximum Processor State 100%

ATI Powerplay Settings -> Maximize Performance when Plugged In

Also you might try overclocking your GPU. Not sure about the Envy 17 3XXX models, but the E15 1XXX can be overclocked quite a bit. ( This is the one I use, you probably need to use a different overclocking tool for the 6850m, or perhaps MSI Afterburner )
