    Hi!

I have an hp 8510w notebook and I just updated its graphic card driver for Nvidia FX 570M via Windows Update (dated 29.1.2009) because so far I had positive experiences with it. But not this time! Since I updated it the screen is not as bright as it was any more... It is actually so dark my eyes hurt when typing in Word for instance... and the brightness is on max :swoon:

Any suggestions? If you can just tell me how to restore my previous driver I would appreciate it very much... Thank you :notworthy:

Right click on My Computer --> Properties --> Device Manager (top left) --> Display Adapters --> <right-click on your video card> --> Properties --> Driver tab --> Roll back driver

You can also access the device manager from the control panel.

This is on Vista. On XP it is similar but you have to access the Device Manager in a different way.

One more problem you'll likely notice is Type 1 fonts do not install and do not show both in ATM and other prorgams.

That's one way to go (see the post by Heer Kaputt).

Another way to go is install a specific version of drivers that are known to function properly. In this case, the latest must be 179.44 OR to be sure install an older version 174.70 (most certifications and most reliable).

Visit http://h20331.www2.hp.com/Hpsub/cache/285686-0-0-225-121.html and download and install HP Performance Tuning Framework. Launch.

The application has a tab "Graphics Driver" and options to download and install various version of NVidia drivers for your system. Install either 174.70 or the latest 179.44.

But before you do any of the above, turn off the light sensor in BIOS and then when in Windows use Fn + F10 keys to set brightness to the maximum. See if this could be the "problem".
