    In a nutshell, I have a failed Bios Upgrade on a DV9000T.
The notebook is dead, beep ... beep .. beep and all that. It beeps at like 100 decibels, something equivalent to a smoke alarm. It's a rock, can't do a thing with it.

So far, nothing I have tried has worked to repair the problem. Can anybody help?
The Phoenix Crisis Recovery Disk doesn't do a thing. I have the latest F.16 Bios from HP extracted to the floppy and I do have an external USB Floppy Drive.

I am trying to power on the notebook using FN + B and hitting the power button. What am I doing wrong? Shouldn't this be working. I'm just pulling my hair out here. Sometimes I try with the battery in, sometimes with it out. Sometimes the Floppy light starts blinking in tune with the bleep ... bleep .. bleep ... For a while anyway, then it finally stops. The notebook just sits there like a 747 will all the blue LED's glowing.

Am I missing something? Somebody please help me. :(

I found a more updated version of Phoenix Phlash16 (PH1614.EXE) but replacing it on the floppy doesn't change anything. I even tried renaming it to PHLASH16.EXE but it didn't help.

Its probably not booting up, because the motherboard cannot detect a full BIOS onboard. If you are under warranty, then you can get HP to repair the notebook. It will most likely require a new EEPROM, and that is something that can be easily replaced. You may be able to request it from HP, in order to save time on it getting repaired by them.

Have you tried Win key + B? If that doesn't work, then you need to send it back to HP.

    Yea, I tried Fn + B and Win + B.
    Didn't do squat.

It's under warranty, but it is soooooo annoying .....
Why can't the Restore CD, which I have, just zero and reload the Bios ???

Because a computer doesn't work without a BIOS. Something has to tell a computer to load an OS from a CD or a hard drive and that's what's dead in your laptop, the BIOS.

Where is Bill Gates when I feel like kicking some ass?

... and remember, do not try to flash your bios under x64, even though HP allows it.

I thought the Phoenix Crisis Recovery Utility was supposed to fix it, though?
Why can't there be an HP Bios Recovery Utility SD card or something included with the notebooks, for emergencies.
    .. or an extra eeprom?

I plan on asking for (2) of them, just to see what happens.

I wasn't actually blaming him for the Bios problem. I've wanted to kick his ass for years and it just felt like a great opportunity to get it out of my system. :D

It goes all the way back to when I was writing a 5000 word paper on Windows 3.1 and the screen just froze. I didn't turn the computer off for 2 days, thinking there just had to be a way to save it. Yea, I've got issues with that guy. The teacher didn't buy the excuse, either.

so you want to jump on gates because you were not smart enough to do incremental saves or backups of the document. Another instance of someone who should take computer lessons even a basic word processing course will tell you that...LOL

It was not so easy to make backups when the OS was running in one floppy drive and the dictionary was running in the other? See what I had to work with ...

This was Compaq's idea of a "luggable" and it didn't have a connector for an external drive. You had to load the bios from floppy before being able to do anything.

You're a supper natural generic human. That "5000 word paper" is only your excuse, the real hatred of yours with Bill Gates is you can not be him or better than him. You're always live in yesterday, then bad thing comes again and again and you keep blaming & blaming to Bill Gates every time. There is no tomorrow for you, because your eyes are always look behind your back. Let go you hatred and take a deep breath and look around you, you're below one Bill Gate but above a few so why bother. You will enjoy your life at the moment much more meaningful if you stop use that excuse "5000 word paper".

I also have an HP DV9000t with a BIOS upgrade problem. After an hour on the phone with tech support, they and I both agree that the CMOS battery is dead! I had to argue with them to issue a confirmation number to send the laptop back to be fixed on their dime...they wanted to charge me $200 to fix a two month old laptop that is supposed to be warranted for a year...talk about frustrating!

One of the tell tale signs is the inability to keep the proper date and time...I mean when I turn the laptop off, then restart it a day later, the laptop will show an erroneous time with a date near 2010.

I mention all of this because upon trying to flash to the current BIOS f.16, the laptop just defaults to its currently installed version f.14, so this dead battery situation may be more common than I first suspected.

Anyhow, I hope this helps. :)

The fn or win +b thing doenst work on their entertainment line of laptops. It works on at least some of their business class machines though. Sadly they didnt add the back door to fix the BIOS on these systems. I just got mine returned last week from a failed flash. Funny enough I had to argue on the phone a few times over a couple of days that windows Vista being on my hard drive had nothing to do with it lol.

I hardly ever call HP. I contact them as much by email as possible. It does take longer waiting for the replies, but at least my ear doesn't hurt. I just can't deal with having to explain them how the Bios is different than the OS.

I should have mine back today and no more bios updates for me under x64.

Anybody know of any Phoenix Crisis Recovery or Similar Utility that actually works on a DV9000T My notebook has been fixed, but I would love to be able to backup my working bios and have the option to restore it back using the same utility that backed it up. There has to be something out there that supports the latest Phoenix Bios's.

I mean, you should be able to do this if you can unlock your car using a tennis ball!?

How'd you end up getting it fixed anyway? Did you have to call HP?

I didn't call HP. I just used their online form and waited for them to respond:

I told them I was attempting to apply the March '07 Bios Update F.16 and the screen just went blank when the progress bar showed 50% completion. They told me it sounded like a hardware problem and I sent it in under warranty. I think the only way to fix it is to have them swap the bios chip, or you can buy a replacement bios chip from another vender and do it yourself. I think it just plugs in. I want to put Linux on this badboy, checkout this badass Xandros Screenshot.

    Aaaahhh Man ...

I just got the notebook back from HP and the letter said they had to replace the whole motherboard in my my new notebook. ok, whatever. Seemed like replacing the bios chip would have been easier. Anyway, it's the same exact motherboard, chipset, etc. correct bios but I started having issues with my keyboard. When the NUM lock is on, several of the keyboard keys do not correspond. I mean some letter keys turning into numbers. This is really screwing me up as I like to have the NUM lock on all the time for typing numbers. That is why I bought a notebook with a separate number pad. Has anyone else been experiencing this, or did HP get me good? Notice, not blaming B. Gates!, ok. [IMG]

    @mbmalone,

Maybe an issue with the keyboard settings? Go through the control panel, you may find a feature enabled that is causing this issue.

I don't see any issues there. Standard 101 keyboard.
Watch me type straight across the top row, left to right. See how the letters turn into numbers.
What the !@##$%% Can anybody expain this?

It happens on others keys, too. I can't type, pissing me off. How can uio become 456?

    With NUM Lock Off:

    qwertyuiop[]

    With NUM Lock On:

    qwerty456*[]

I sent a ticket in to HP will all the information.
They say it sounds like a hardware issue and back it goes again!

I also noticed that for the first time they didn't image my drive and since I doubt they were able to Hack my obscure Vista password, how where they able to verify that the keyboard worked after they swapped the motherboard!! Can't believe it. If you swapped the engine in a car, you would start it before delivering it to a customer, wouldn't you?
