I noticed that the blue Caps Lock indicator on my laptop keyboard does not light up. It is irritating as it sometimes leads to inputting wrong credentials, passwords etc. I stumbled on this issue yesterday.

Is there any way to check the failure, as to if it is a certain failure? Any workaround for it? Is there a small fix that could save me returining the laptop to HP?

I hate having to send things in for service. Often, you can fix this sort of stuff for cheap, and even if you have a warranty, it might be "cheaper" to fix yourself (if you are in the position of placing a value on the time you are without the unit while it is getting repaired).

You can buy new keyboards on ebay, starting at about $8. Be sure you are getting a "new" keyboard and not a "like new" keyboard. I bought 10 of um. The part number for my DV9500T's is 441541-001 (apparently used on a lot of different HP models). They are very easy to change out, and it is quite nice to be able to get back that "new keyboard feel" every so often.

You can also probably find the other parts pretty cheap if that does not fix it. There are a number of places that part out 9500's, and sell the parts at a very good price.

Video instructions for replacement are at the link below. Select the "FRU/Remove/Replace" option:

    Hope that helps!
