My fan is constantly running on my laptop, even when I have the laptop turned off for a whole day. As soon as I turn it on, the fan runs non-stop. The laptop isn't even hot, but the fan continues to run. I chatted with an HP rep and she had me update my BIOS and then she had me reset the Power Management settings. However, the fan is still running non-stop. The only time the fan doesn't run is when the computer is on power saver mode. If anyone can help me with the problem that would be great, thanks.

You can toggle that behavior in the BIOS. Always On is recommended, especially with NVIDIA chips.
Edit: umm, never mind about the toggle. I was thinking of HP's newer notebooks. You NEED to keep the fan on 24x7 to keep that NVIDIA 8400 from frying. -
Yes that's the only way that HP engineers can think to prevent the overheating problems. My best guess is they do NOT do proper research for heat flow and underestimate the NVIDIA documents on heat limitations.

That is because of a new BIOS update... its there to help prevent overheating issues that are a problem with these laptops.
Mine is always on too, but it changes speed according to system load -
Mine never changed accordingly, it was always on and loud. However, I wiped out my computer and reinstalled vista and so far its running awesome. It does run, but not constantly as before. It only runs when I'm using the computer heavily but nothing like before. I also cleaned out the fan with compressed air before reinstalling vista.
