I've an HP Compaq 6720s and its fan has started making a weird noise. Its like a constant whirr. I am positive that its not the HDD.

Could it be some dust or something stuck to it, or do I have a problem coming towards me?

I've the same hunch. Will a blower be effective? i mean I know it'll be but can it potentially damage something?

Most will advise you to put something in the fan to prevent it from spinning too fast as that can damage the bearings and make the wrr even worse.

:( with that said I hate how my fan sounds. I wonder if there are quieter fans that fit in the stock heatsink

Putting something in the fan can damage the processor. I think they won't start in the first place due to the spiking temperature.
