    Compaq 2500 has 3 fans, 2 on the side and 1 in back, Do they come on by a heat sensor? and normally off unless needed?
    Just noticed only one on the side is on.

    each fan is for a different component (most components have their own temperature sensor) so each fan will come on separately as needed for its component
