I've tried a couple of programs, CHC and SpeedFan with my nx8220 without success. My fan starts at 40C and that makes it go on and off all the time. Before, I'm quite sure it cooled down to 40 and then didn't turn on again until temp reached 45. What might cause a change like that?

    thanks for help, g

Are you connected to the AC at the time? My nx8220 runs all the time when connected to AC. It could also be related to an OS load. Did you reload the OS manually or is it still the original OS load that came with the unit? The power management settings may be different. There's a driver/config tool on the HP site for the nex8220's. It's supposed to set the default power management settings for the unit. Give it a try as this may help.

You know, I never really checked when my fan turns on, I just know it usually stops when it hits 40c. I'll try to pay more attention and see when it kicks in.

I'm interested in buying a NX8220, but this issue with the fan starting at a low 40° C doesn't sound good. Isn't it quite low for todays notebooks?
Have you found any solutions lately? Did the new BIOS change anything? CHC didn't work, what about newer versions, now called Notebook Hardware Controller (NHC)?

Oftopic: Have you had any problems with the display getting scratched like the one in this review? Just look at the last two pictures and you'll know what I mean.
Here's a description on how to make the keyboard more stable, even though most people could figure that out by themselves.

    Thanks.

Nice pictures for the keyboard removal. I haven't opened my l2000 but I suspect it will be a lot like this..

Try upgrading the bios from HP website. The new version has better control over fan speed, the fan will kicks in at 45 degrees only.
