    I have a dv2700 with updated bios.

Whenever I use my computer, even if im just using the internet after a little while the fan starts to cycle. It goes really high for a second, then dies down for a second, repeating constantly.

I wouldn't mind a loud fan, but this is extremly aggravating.

Is there something wrong with my laptop?

    ^^ LOL

HP recently issued a BIOS update for certain Pavilion and Compaq notebooks that updates the fan algorithms to run constantly at the lowest setting when the laptop is idling. This update was issued to prevent some of the heat damage that some owners have reported to their computers (including myself), such as failed graphics adapters, wireless cards, motherboards, etc.

What makes me wonder is why the fan is kicking in so erratically in your case. Check this page:

I updated the bios last week. This computer is like 3 months old, so I don't think the fan is dusty...

Also my computer, the 2700, is not on that list.

Did you have this problem before you updated the BIOS?

Please note that updating the BIOS is always a risky operation that is not necessary unless you need the new BIOS features, whatever they may be. A bad BIOS flash can permanently disable your computer.
