    Hey all,

It's mentioned here and there, but Vista update KB941649 claims to speed up Vista startup, and it has worked dramatically for me across a few different systems.

It doesn't seem to be included when you run Windows Update, so in case you haven't already installed it (5mb) here's the link:

I don't really see the difference, but I'm sure others may feel different about the patch.

A whole different story here. After installing and shut down my PC I booted up when first installed and noticed a great difference. In tthe Event Viewer my last Startup time was 218 seconds (3.63 minutes) and after the installation was 92 seconds (1.32 minutes), so it did worked for me :D.

...but I'll continue testing, if anything gets better or worse I'll let you know. ;)

Even though the startup time definitely was reduced for you, I must say I am still very curious about your boot times.

May I ask what you are running on your notebook which make it boot so slow? It cannot be your system - looking at the specs in your signature, it is more than capable.

According to Event Viewer my boot times on my ThinkPad X61 are between 39-45 seconds. I have defragged the boot files but that is about it. No significant tweaks have been made. I have about 69 processes running.
