We have a review of US cousin of the thrive here...
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4210

Basically its the same laptop but with slightly varying specs and in any case performance wise this shouldnt be any different from regular dv6700t notebooks.

I saw an ad for it in a magazine.

It can be purchased from the hp website. Otherwise it's on the Dick Smith Powerhouse website and some of their stores do stock it (apparently). I will be visiting a few DSE stores to see what the notebook looks like.

Where have you seen the white special edition ? You are referring to the 6528TX ?

It looks like the only real difference between the 2 (besides Imprint), is the processor (with the Thrive being superior in that respect). Both are Memron units, just like the initial release of the standard dv6700t.....

HP seems to be just changing cosmetic looks, they all look the same to be honest. HP is just running out of ideas, the latest dv2800 is horrible looking

They really need to fix their design flaws eg harddrive placement, vents for better cooling instead of looks for easier marketing sales

    Yeah I agree.

Although I haven't physically seen the notepad, I have already picked up on some improvements they could make:

    (1) only 3 usb ports

    (2) usb ports should either be vertical or stacked on top of one another. I hate the 2 usb ports being horizontal side-by-side. If you get one usb stick or plug that is too wide, then it means you can't use the usb next to it.

    (3) what's the idea of having the kensington lock attached to the side of the monitor ??? How dumb...

    (4) the usb on the right hand side would normally be used for a mouse. I am guessing that the cord may get in the way when the dvd drive is opened ?

    (5) why isnt there a latch to secure the lid closed ?

    (6) the ac power plug should be at the back not the side

    (1) There should be more, but it doesn't bother me since I use a 4-port extension anyway :D . Makes plugging USB devices in a lot easier.

    (2) I am interested to know how it would work. I don't think you mean horizontal and stacked since that would mean adding an inch to the height of the notebook. If it is vertical and stacked sideways, the difference in height (feel the edge of your notebook) would mean that mean that if the outside plastic casing surrounding the USB is wide, then the USB wouldn't be able to plug in correctly.
Assuming HP does a design change and make the edge flat, you still wouldn't be able to plug a wide USB in since it reach the table and tilt your notebook at an unsightly angle.

    (3) so as not to waste valuable port space? I would assume it would take quite some time for someone to disconnect your monitor to steal your notebook.

    (4) The joys of wireless :)

    (5) Good hinge. I have to use two hands to open the lid.

    (6) Hmmm interesting. I wonder how that would work out. It might free up some port space at the side for another port.

I only have 2 USB ports actually.. Im supposed to have 3 but HDMI port took up one of them. It doesnt matter though because i have a quickdock with 6 usb ports plus an extra USB hub with 4 more ports

I would have placed the AC plug, VGA, S-video and USB ports on the back and put an extra side vent.
