After weeks of shopping for laptop #2, I made some compromises and found what I hope to be a great buy.

Just bought a 3 month old used DV7-6178US off Ebay from a Power Seller with 100% rating on over 1700 transactions. Cost was $568.

Clincher for me was that it comes with the original receipt so it still has 9 months left on the original transferable warranty.

    Here's some of the specs:
    Product Name dv7-6178us
    Product Number LY849UA#ABA
Microprocessor 2nd generation Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor 2.00GHz with Turbo Boost Technology up to 2.90 GHz
    Memory 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 DIMM)
Memory Max Maximum supported = 16GB
Video Graphics Radeon HD 6490M s
    Video Memory itchable graphics
    Hard Drive 750GB (5400RPM)
    Multimedia Drive SuperMulti DVD Burner
    Display 17.3” diagonal High Definition+ HP BrightView LED Display (1600 x 900)
    Fax/Modem
Network Card Integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN
Wireless 802.11b/g/n WLAN with WiDi (36)
Sound Beats Audio with the HP Triple Bass Reflex Subwoofer

I wanted the 6770M Radeon GPU, a 7500RPM HD and a 1920x1080 screen... but decided to take the plunge on this one at this price with 9 month warranty.

Since I still need another laptop for my daughter when she goes to college in 6 months or so, I will probably end up using this notebook till then and then trading it to my son for his new Lenovo i5, 15.6" screen laptop, which I will give to my daughter since the 17" HP will be a bit unwieldy to tote on campus. And then I'll buy myself a new Ivy Bridge Laptop. :)

Anyway... I AM SO PSYCHED!!! It is gonna be tough waiting the week until my new laptop arrives. :D

Other than downloading the latest HP and AMD drivers for the laptop to a USB fingerdrive, what else should I do to get ready for the laptop's arrival? Anyone overclocking the 6490M GPU with stable results?

The 6490m is pretty weak, but that is a smokin' deal on that rig. I'd be psyched as well to get something that good for only $568.

I'd been shopping for a DV6/7 for the last 3 weeks and missed out on a few other 6770m units, at a higher price of course; so when I found this one by searching for new listings this morning, I jumped on it after some very quick research. It had only been listed for an hour or so, and probably would have been gone had I not grabbed it when I did.

    Hopefully, it will work out.

That looks nice a nice machine! It is an amazing deal, but it does drawback on the GPU. Don't expect too much from that part of the laptop.
