Well, after a week of trying to find a model with a Lightscribe drive and learning it just will not happen I broke down today and ordered an EV267AA model. It's only a T2400 1.86ghz, 512mb and only 80gb hdd but it has the most important thing for me and that is the matte display. I can add ram and get a bigger HDD...

I have spent a weekend with the dv9033cl and it's glossy BrightView and knew the first day it had to go back because the the display is simply too reflective. It's a shame to as this is an AWESOME system. 2gb ram, 200mb HDD space, tv tuner, remote control and a bunch of other crap I'd likely never use but it's sorta cool to have. But it's just not for me...

I looking forward to getting the new one though. Should be the end of the week or early next week depending on how long the order processing takes. I am actually getting from Canada (it has the international warranty so no worries, I hope???) But I got it for just $1250 including shipping. To me that is a steal. It's old stock and they were needing to clear inventory so I could not say no.

Something I have been trying not to think about is my old systems all have ATA drives and I just installed a 100gb drive in the i8500 that died. So here I have a whole ready to go drive with all my stuff setup but I will need to re-install and copy over via USB. That should kill a couple days. Unless MS Office and MS VS05 suddenly installs lightening fast on the Core Duo systems...but it will be nice to get back to working and have a sparkly new system to begin the year with.

I really appreciated all the information I found here and do plan to visit often as I can. It's nice to see a basically friendly and helpful tech related board. So many others are, well, different... ;)

    Everyone here is just GREAT....THANKS!!!

thanks and will try and write something up later this month. It might be nice to have used this one for a weekend so I can contrast and compare a bit between the dv9000 series and the NX9420. BTW, cute baby, thay make them look so lifelike these days....hehehehe... :)

thanks!! and also thank the gawds for for Costco & their excellent return policy. I had hoped to make it work but bummer it just didn't. but at lease this dv was a floor demo unit so it's not as bad as it sounds to return it. Funny I would not feel badly for sending a system back to Dell but do feel a bit weird about doing so at Costco...weird....oh, well, Costco will likely hate me as I haven't bought anything there for a couple years since I last bought tires...

    Happy New Year...

Screw 'em if they can't take a joke. No one forced them to offer a 6 month return window. How they can offer it still amazes me though. Six freakin' months! If I had read WANA's post before I purchased my D6Z, I would have jumped in with both feet. Live and learn...

Thanks and best to you in the New Year!

thanks gridtalker!! :) Supposedly it ships tomorrow so I might have it by Saturday if it clears US Customs right away. I ship a lot of merchandise and find that when we ship Express things clear customs in other countries lightening fast. I have no experience on the receiving end though. We'll see, if not Saturday the sometime next week for certain. Waiting SUX!! hehehehe...

    spatial:

I have very happy returns today. Easy breezy and cute too...some days I LOVE Costco...if ya knowwadimean... ;)

BUT what really sux is I am on my last bastion backup system right now...my 7-8 year old inspiron 5000 with a powerhouse PIII 650mhz CPU...it does however have a super great ATI Rage Mobility-p with 8MB's!!! Yup, shezzzz a screamer for sure...you guys should see the way the forums refresh...it's laughable. Hard to believe this was state-of-the-art just a short time ago.

Well, off to buy some RAM and a neat new Tom Bihn Super Ego & Horizontal Brain Cell to give this new toy a happy place to live. :)

thanks jka!! I want it NOW...hehehehe...would have been done working 5 hrs ago if it was here...

So tonight to stave off boredom I ordered a 12-cell battery for it...I still need to order more RAM.

Am waiting on the new carry bag though as the Horizontal Brain Cell is in production and they don't have any util the end of January. So I will be able to afford food this week since I have to wait...cool!!
