What's the difference between the "AuthenTec Fingerprint Driver" and the "DigitalPersona Fingerprint Software"?
Do I need to install both to make it work? Is the AuthenTec one the driver and the DigitalPersona the software the runs the scanner?
Thanks for the help. My new notebook is coming today. A dv6700t.

Yes, you need both. But the driver itself might be as well packed in the software package.
-
Basically, the driver allows the Windows Operating System to communicate with the hardware, and the software communicates with both the OS and the hardware to store your fingerprint and use it as a password for various applications. Drives only allow the OS to communicate with hardware, but you need the software to use and manipulate the hardware. Sometimes Windows will have the software for you to use the hardware, but not in this case.

Thanks guys. Envision, I understand the concepts of drivers versus software but thanks for the explanation. You're pretty dang good at explaining things. I appreciate it [and I'm not being sarcastic]. I hate sarcasm.
So I'll install the AuthenTec then the Digital-Persona software. My notebook should be here at 10. You know the drill, clean install after I do all the back-up and creating the restore disc. I'm excited!! Thanks guys. -
Yep, always gotta do the clean install or half your money goes to waste! lol

Not to thread hijack, but what is the "DigitalPersona Fingerprint Software". I have the dv6500t (2 months old) and I don't see that software either on my computer or as an option from the HP Software and Driver download.
FYI, I have Vista. -

FP-reader works perfect for me! It's hard to think there are laptops without this useful thing as it makes life way easier.

I posted this on another thread, but I found it only for Vista Ultimate 64-bit:

I'm sure you can go and download the software if you search for it. -
If anyone wants the program DigitalPersona for 32bit Vista, PM me.
For some reason it's not on HP, I don't know why. But I can get you the program. all you gotta do is pm me. all the best. -
hi,
i just got my hp dv6700t and i have done a clean install with windows vista 32bit ultimate... the only thing i cant seem to get to work is fingerprint reader... i did install the authentic fingerprint driver from hp, but i think im just missing this digitalpersona driver. do you mind giving me the correct driver and some quick instructions on how to get my fingerprint scanner to recognize or scan? i have tried other drivers from digitalpersona(ie. digitalpersona password manager and digital persona U are U) to no avail, so hopefully theres another software out there that i couldnt find. thank you in advance ~ jimmy -
pimpjim69,
If you haven't already, click on Yitzter's name up there and send a private message to him asking for the software. He will see that a lot faster than this post. -
Hey the Verisoft isn't that good. The DigitalPersona is miles ahead better. It runs really great and the interace is simpler and better to use. Only problem is no one can seem to find the 32-bit version, only the 64-bit one. But I would definately use the DigitalPersona one.

But like I said, if anyone wants the program just let me know, I'll get it to you asap.
I just HP doesn't get too pissed off at me for spreading the "unfindable and unknown software" lol -
hi yitzter,
sent u a pm already...i need the software as well...
Thanks in advance -
Try this for 32bit version of Digital Persona
ftp://ftp.hp.com/ftp1/pub/softpaq/sp37501-38000/sp37618.exe
I got it by browsing HP's ftp directory that had the 64bit version. Noticed they used a seperate softpaq for each language. Found a group of files close to the same size as the 64bit verison and read the cva's. This should do it.
I dont know why hp doesnt have list it on their site at all. -
Another link for 32bit.
