For those with the fingerprint reader, I pose a question. If someone would want to log onto you're computer, would they're be a possible password feature so you wouldn't have to scan your finger?
I understand the idea of a fingerprint reader, is so no one besides yourself could access your files, however if a friend wanted to use the computer, can you change it from fingerprint to password? Also how secure is the Fingerprint reader, I'm just waiting for a headline to say "Computer tech's create generic fingerprint for HP's fingerprint reader."
-
It gives you the option to log in with either a password or fingerprint. I have the fingerprint reader and I don't like it. It takes either too many swipes to get an accurate image to log in or it keeps bugging me and popping up whenever I enter a password, although that is the purpose of it..lol
-
i, on the other hand. love it so far...
you should try re-registering your finger swipe. i usually swipe mine pretty quickly ...so long as it is flat when i swipe it it goes through -
Can two people in the same family use the fingerprint reader?
-
Multiple people CAN be entered into the fingerprint security!
-
-
I like the fingerprint reader. Have to swipe your finger correctly though. You can actually register multiple fingers to access. You can activate GUEST for others who wants to use your system.
-
I like the fingerprint reader but did you guys find a way to disable the password entry at login? I'd like to disable it. Didn't find any option anywhere. So what's the point in having a fingerprint reader?
-
I personally don't recommend disabling the password protection. If your fingerprint reader get out of whack you'll have no way of accessing, unless maybe in safe mode?
-
a fingerprint reader is a dangerous albeit useful tool. why? if someone steals your laptop and you have made sure that they cannot login without your fingerprint, then you be rest assured they will be after your finger next lol
unless they can pull a macguyver and somehow fake your fingerprint -
i love the verisoft access manager for the fingerprint reader, but does anyone know if it encrypts the passwords it stores?
-
They're going to be dismayed if they cut off my finger to access to my laptop and only find porn which they can get it themselves! just jokin' hahahaha
-
my only fear of fingerprint reader is will it possible that the computer won't recognise your fingerprint? will it take a long time?
how about if your finger skin peeled? -
W-tanoto,
I don't think that small alterations to your fingerprint, like peeling, would really affect the recognition.
Also, my reader never failed at reading my fingerprint. I never had to swap a second time since I use it (december 2006). I may be lucky but for now, I have had a 100% success with it.
Also, if your finger really doesn't work anymore (say you burn your skin), then you have the second finger that the calibration process asks for. So you're supposedly safe with that. -
Wouldn't it be nice if it has an eye scanner to log in? Reminds me of a James Bond movie
-
-
And it's free. It locks the laptop when you leave and unlocks it once you're back in front of the camera... -
Looks great but they don't support Vista yet =(.3

now does this work with xp login? or just when its on already and you leave
-
It doesn't work with Login. It's not a login manager.
It's a LOCK utility to lock your station when you're not in front of it anymore, in order to avoid others to access your precious computer environment. -

Has anyone found the Wizard set for the fingerprint reader to be very difficult to read?
When I expanded the box the lettering becomes very fuzzy and more difficult to read. I figured out increase the font size in all other Vista programs but can't seem to make the wizard legible. I can likely muddle through but it is annoying. Any ideas? -
The hardest part (which isn't really that hard) was obtaining the print. If you have physical access to a laptop (especially an HP with its shiny finish), you have plenty of samples to choose. -
where can i find a really small web cam?
-
right. thanks for giving me the idea on how it works. I never use one. -

Ars is very good, but in this case I don't think they really put in a good effort. They used gelatin, but they didn't color it, so it was transparent! The Mythbusters do that type of stuff for a living, and are used to making fake fingers, etc... They did a pretty good job, getting much more creative than the Ars test.
