Hi Guys..I have a dv9500 and my wife has a dv6500, both came with Vista. She finds it too difficult to deal with Vista so I installed XP for her. Thing is, I noticed that the fingerprint software (VeriSoft Access Manager) preinstalled is version 2.1.2.880.115 but the one available for download on HP.com is 2.1.0.844 A. Some of the features are missing in the one available on hp. If anybody could help me figure out how to extract that from the recovery disk or the swsetup folder, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

I figured it out, for those of you installing xp on the dvX000 or dvX500 models that came preinstalled with vista and looking for the latest version of Verisoft Access Manager for the fingerprint reader, it can be found in the folder called VSAM in the swsetup folder.

Experience shown extensively on this forum - immediately after first complete startup of a new HP machine:
    1. Run recovery manager and create the machine's recovery discs.
    2. Create a DVD with backup of SWSETUP folder found on the C: drive.

That will ensure your ability to rebuild your machine to factory condition without depending on any website. The multitude of models and human error is something to avoid with these big companies..

sorry if this is off topic, but how did any of you install XP onto the dv9500 machine. I can't get past the dreaded error message telling me xp found no drives to install on.

On your dv9500, were you able to install and utilize all the drivers and hardware after installing XP?

As for getting past the error message in BIOS, I think you have to disable a the setting for SATA drives (or something like that). A call to HP support will verify the actual setting base don your model.
