Hi, just a question for those who have used or own the fingerprint reader option on your HP notebooks
how does it work, and is it a worthy feature?
thanks in advance

Depends, I've heard it only works with Internet explorer, but thats hear-say, also if your like me, when 200 (exaggerating) passwords and pay all your bills online, even order Chinese food and pizza online, that it will come in very handy.

My kids think it's the coolest. If you have multiple users on your laptop, the neat thing is, whoever wants to log in just swipes their finger and voila.. the fp reader knows the fingerprint and logs the right user in. I'm actually returning my hp 6700 for a hp dv5t and I might just be a gadget-freak but I just had to add that in the options!! Oh, and it works great - I thought it was going to be buggy and not work most of the time..not true. -
how is that different than just saving your passwords so they autocomplete in forms?
sounds worth it for the main log-in regardless though
firefox compatable? -
Unless there's something I don't know.. the fingerprint reader has nothing to do with surfing the net.. it has to do with windows permissions - user permissions.

Im still in the infancy stage of using it on my new dv5t. I'm wary of saving passwords on my computer, and I don't know much about the security of the reader (i.e. - where's my fingerprint data stored). Any information on how secure these things are would be greatly appreciated. I would love to not have to type in any of my passwords.

Its really useful when you don't feel like typing or when friends or people are around you. Sadly the Biocrypt Software doesn't work on Firefox 3.x and they don't do updates at all.

Yes it is worth it. Although I only use it to log into my Windows account. If I had to buy a new computer, I'd get the fingerprint reader.

you can get the fingerfox add on for firefox and the reader works just fine.
-
OR, you can get ie tabs. Since the FP reader primarily works with Internet Explorer, ie tabs convert the thingy to IE so the FP works great.

You guys ROCK
