Hi. I have dv9700t, and one out of every five times or so, the log-in screen initially says the fingerprint scanner can't be detected. Then about five seconds later, it gets detected and the scanner works just fine. The problem is every time this happens, my other USB ports don't work, and I have to restart. For instance, I leave my USB HDTV tuner connected to my laptop, and when I get that fingerprint error, it can't recognize my tuner and says "unknown device." By the way, my laptop makes the default USB device connected/disconnected sound when I close the lid ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=212183 ), and this makes me suspect if something's wrong with the hardware.

For USB conflict/things not being seen problems like this I usually start by going to Device Manager and removing all the USB device drivers, all the USB host controllers and USB Root hubs, then restart and let Windows redetect and reinstall everything. That has worked pretty consistently for me, but your mileage may vary. Is your system set to go into standby when you close the lid? Because part of using standby is that it turns off the USB ports and you may just be hearing the "USB device unplugged" noise because basically all the USB devices are going offline at once. I tested with my own laptop and my USB mouse doesn't make the disconnected noise when I go into standby, but I wouldn't discount that as being the cause of the noise.

My laptop is set to "do nothing" when I close the lid. If the USB detection issue persists, I'll try your solution.
    Thanks
