    Hi all,
First time poster in HP! I just picked up a tx1000 (tx1020ea to be exact) for my wife. It came preinstalled with Vista home premium....and so much other stuff that the pc was basically un-usable. There were so many bugs, eg sidebar wouldnt work, was unable to un-install some programs, bootup was extreamly slow (over 2min), and the list goes on....That I decided to do a clean re-install with a retail version of vista (but used the serial on the bottom of the laptop). That solved most of the problems, and I now actually don't mind the laptop... hated it to begin with.
Anyway's, HP is/was kind enough to have all the necessary drivers on the website to get the lappie back up and running, but unfortunately I cannot seem to find any software for running/using the fingerprint scanner. Its not a major issue, but if anyone knows what or where I could get said software that would be great.

I will post a mini-review of the laptop latter when I get some time, but overall I would give it 7/10.... and in a few months when vista becomes more stable that could increase to an 8+.

That tablet/notebook isn't supposed to be available for a couple of weeks (Feb 28th). Where did you pick one up? I'm interested in getting one, too.

Sorry, can't help with your problem.

He is from France so it might have come out over there already. On the other hand I thought U.S. gets everything first

It was at FNAC, a large chain electronics store here in France. I purchased it on the 10th of Feb, so I guess it was released here a bit earlier than the states. Unfortunately, it came with the base specs, ie lower end cpu and only 1gb of ram. To make things worse the ram is 2 sticks of 512 making the upgrade to 2gb more expensive and the added pain of having to get rid of two other sticks.
Although now that I have done a fresh install, the 1gb seems to be fine for running vista.

    Hi.
I saw your post about instaling vista from scratch in a tx1000. I do wanna do the same (same reasons: crapware, bugs, etc).
    2 questions
-did you solve the fingerprint thing?
-about the license. i saw you used the same number on the bottom, so I asumme you didnt have to buy a new licence. how ever, how can you get a "clean" version of vista home premium (the one originally in the laptop)?

    thanks!
