    Hi,

I have the dv4000 series laptop.

Is that a male or a female port? I always get this confused. :)

I need to connect it to my Canon Optura Pi miniDV camcorder with a 4 pin connector.

Need to determine if I need a male to male or female to female cable.

    Thanks,
    eagle07

It is a female 4-pin port. It is the same as the one on a miniDV, so you need a 4-pin male to male cable.

OK this is how it works - may sound a little..funny but it will always help you remember.

The Male end is the end that goes in and...ok I already said to much. :p

that's exactly though why they call it male and female. For us as guys to imagine, um, male goes where and females take what? you don't even have to be human to know that.

Actually, looking at the firewire port on the dv4000, I was thinking the same line as togus, that it is hermaphrodite. It is a hole but there is a prong in the middle with 4 pins. That the cause of confusion. :)
