I have Vista Ultimate, 64-bit version, running on my HDX, and have run into the first 64-bit specific hardware incompatibility: my Lexar Jumpdrive won't work. Vista goes thru this l-o-n-g process of saying it has detected the "Lexar Jumpdrive" (it gets the name right), but can't find drivers, then goes online and searches for about 5 minutes before it gives up.
I've verified that all the USB ports work okay, by plugging in other devices--like the wireless receiver on my Logitech nanomouse--and they work fine. I alos chatted w/Lexar, and they said their drives are not compatible and will not work on 64-bit Vista. Cripes.
Does anyone know of a USB drive that will work on 64-bit Vista?

My Sandisk Cruzer micro 4 gig works under 64bit.

i have the cruzer 4gb too.. no issues either... I also have 2 generics (2gb) and a 1gb pdq that have no issues.
does your drive work on other pc's? -
I have not known of a company that said they werent compatible with 64bit. Nice to know bit of info.

Also, took advice of those saying Sandisk Cruzer 4 GB works. Went to Sandisk's site, looked at drives, got confused, and called Sandisk. The tech support guy said make sure the drive says "Enhanced for Windows ReadyBoost" to be compatible w/Vista 64-bit. He verified that the Cruzer Micro would work, so have ordered one. (THo will probably get rid of the U3 stuff when I get it.) -
It's been awhile since my OP, bit I wanted to drop in w/this update:
I bought the Sandisk Cruzer 4 gb as suggested, and when I plugged it into my 64-bit HDX--no joy! ;( Vista did the usual churning trying to find a driver, said it failed, then asked me if I wanted to search for a solution.
Well, since my original problem, MS must have gotten the message on this: I got a dialog saying there was a hotfix. I said "yes' to the install, and afterwards, the Cruzer worked! And by gosh and by golly, so did the older Lexar I mentioned in my OP.
I'm guessing those of you w/x64 systems, whose USB drives already worked, already had the hotfix applied. Odd that something as basic as USB drive compatibility wasn't included. Not like it's some exotic peripheral.
And if anyone is interested, the hotfix ID is "KB940199". -
ahh I had to get that hotfix to make Developer Studio & the 360 SDK work... apologies I didn't realize it had fixed this problem.
First :( on 64-bit Vista--ideas?
