Is anyone else disappointed with the fit & finish of their Envy? I recently purchased a Envy 14-2070NR and while I love the computer, I am a little upset with the build quality. One of the main reasons I was attracted to the line was because reviews mentioned the quality was excellent. I didn't notice at first but on the sides where the top meets, there is a noticable gap, maybe a mm thick and its not uniform. It starts out about 1mm and tapers down to no gap by about halfway. There is a second gap of about the same thickness on the front where the side meets the top. Its starts out at about 1mm on the right side of the computer and tapers down to no gap by the beginning of the touchpad.

Has anyone else seen these issues? Should I contact HP or Amazon? (where I purchased)

It is saddening to inform that this is exactly HP's kind of quality. Many of the ENVY14s I have received have such issues.
My new unit has almost every kind of cosmetic issues from different coloured bottom panels to scratches to uneven top cover and keyboard.
That particular unit is with HP as they investigate quality assurance issues, and apparently they have some findings which they will disclose next week.

Thanks for the reply. I thought I was just being nit picky. So how do you go about them investigating QA? Do I contact HP?

Very interesting @yknyong1 keep us posted.
On topic: yes, I'm a bit disappointed with the overall build quality. Is not bad, not bad at all, but the small details left you with the sad impression that HP dropped the ball halfway.
In my unit even the beautiful glass covering the LCD has defects: move your head and you can see your reflection morph like a wave :p

My Envy 14 CTO, just delivered on 9/24, has ZERO cosmetic flaws. The camera is centered in the cutout at the top to the lid, there are no gaps in any of the seams around the laptop, there is only minor flex in the keyboard at the "K" key, no gap around the touchpad.

All in all, it's the best build of any laptop I've ever seen, cosmetically an easy equal to a MacBook Pro.

I guess I should count my blessings? Perhaps I'm being compensating for the completely abyssmal ownership I suffered through for a year with my Sony Vaio Z11...

My Envy 17 3D has good build quality, though when it arrived, the top left corner of the keyboard panel was sticking out. No matter how often I pushed it back down, it would pop out. Unfortunately or perhaps fortunately, I damaged a prong in the keyboard panel when I swapped my optical drive out for a blu-ray reader. The resultant gap at the bottom annoyed me enough to buy a new keyboard panel altogether, which fit like a glove.

Apart from that, the only flaw in my Envy are two small gaps where the bottom left corner of the top cover comes together with the base of the notebook. One is on the left just before the curve, and then another gap opens just after the curve. They don't bother me much.

I don't understand what the second poster means by "different coloured bottom panels." Is they keyboard panel a different color from the rest of the top cover?

The results from the China factory are still pending; they might want to do a refund. Might as well, it's already one year.

Haha no, clearly is not ;) I'm not complaining about that, though, but the quality could be better.
Mine is on repair and I left a note for the tech guy to try to solve this same thing on my keyboard, but near the F9 key.

No big quality issues with my Envy 17. There is a slight gap between the top and side but it's not enough for me to return it or anything.

I think I lucked out! Thank god for Reil's trackpad application or else I would really be annoyed with the trackpad.

I had a envy 14 before this one and i had a lot of display wiggle when typing. The new Envy 17 doesn't exhibit any of this which is great.

It's a gorgeous laptop and it makes doing my grad school homework much more bearable! :)

    @OP

If you want to read a horror story, just search for my posts. You'll come across my stuff about my 1st gen Envy 17 and how I went through 5 different units with issues across the board. And HP still hasn't fixed the wobble on the Envy 17. It's really sad that a company can't increase the curing pressure. It really is that simple to fix and it'll actually save money because cure time tends to decrease with increased pressure. This is material science 101. I mean, I'm wondering what kind of idiots HP hires to do its engineering work, not that everyone who works for HP is an idiot. Just, that it seems like the ones who make the big decisions are brainless and stubborn.
