I recently updated to the f.06 bios for the envy 14 sb which allows for fixed graphics switching. I was under the impression that this bios update would fix certain issues concerning the ati gpu. However when I run the same game under the 6630m in the fixed graphics mode I get 10fps less. When I go back to the bios and enable the dynamic switching the fps goes back to normal.

Is this a driver issue or what? I also tried using the latest ati drivers and under the dynamic mode everything is clear but when I switch to the dynamic mode and use the ati card words appear blurry and out of focus.FYI I used the drivers from the "working ATI 5650 driver" thread. Also my windows index score is different under the two different modes (dynamic and fixed). In dynamic; my aero graphics are 5.7 and gaming is 6.5 however under fixed it is 3.9 and 6.7 respectively.

I'm at a loss as to what I should do. Could the lower fps stem form the fact that the drivers are meant for dynamic switching vs fixed?

Thanks in advance and sorry if I didn't word anything properly.

My non-Beats Envy 14 is using the stock HP drivers in fixed mode. Both the graphics and gaming WEI scores check in at 6.7. I can't comment on actual game performance because I've not yet installed them (have to wait for a new external HDD enclosure).

Hmmm. That is weird. It seems to me like it would be a driver issue because I can't imagine that the hardware would act different like that between the different modes. Your Windows Experience Index scores are what make it really weird, and why I think it's just a driver issue. When you used the drivers, how did you go about it? I might try uninstalling both video adapters, rebooting, installing stock drivers, reboot, install 11.7, though I don't have a great amount of confidence that'll work.

Thanks for the replies I think it was a driver based issue. I reformatted and reinstalled 11.7 again and ran the windows index and got 6.7 for both gaming and aero graphics. Although I should note that this was only after I did a factory image recovery. Perhaps I had too many driver updates conflicting with each other. Now I just have to test game performance.
