Well, I recently received my dv2000t and found that the right mouse button is a bit unresponsive.

For the left button (the normal one), as long as it is pressed down with a small force it will have a "click" sound & register a click. However, the right button would be able have a "click" sound too, but then requires a harder push when it's already at the lowest point to actually register a click.

I was thinking of taking apart the laptop to gain access to the trackpad/mouse area, but this picture shows that it would be pointless to do so. Does anyone know if these mouse buttons simply "pop" off by prying them out? Or is there some other way?

This problem has been bugging me a lot lately, since I need to often press right-click a couple times for it to work. I should also point out that the buttons feel completely normal. And how easy is it to send it back to HP for repair?

Since taking apart would probably void your warranty, I would contact HP about the problem, and if it's not too much hassle, I would send it back for an exchange if possible if you are still in your 21-day grace period. I just ordered a 2000T last night, and it won't ship until July 31st... The anticipation is killing me...

I received my DV2000T last friday (7/21) and I'm having the same problem, except my left touchpad button is messed up. I have to jam down on it really hard in order for it to work, so it's pretty much useless. The right button behaves normally with a just a light tap, however, I must say that both buttons are very loose and are not as solid as 99% of the other touchpad buttons out there. Go into a Cicuit City and look at the buttons and you'll see what I mean. Every other one in the store was solid. This could be the only thing wrong with this laptop as everything else is pretty nice. Being a stickler for perfection, I might end up exchanging this for another brand/model simply because of these buttons being loose or wobbly.

Has anyone received a dv2000t that doesn't have this problem? I'm getting mine this evening and now I'm worried that I'm going to have to wait another few weeks for a repacement. (I would have had my 2000t in hand last friday, but I wasn't home to greet FedEx)

I received my DV2000t last week, and the left and right mouse buttons are functioning normally (I like the feel of the buttons, they remind me of the Thinkpad IBM/Lenovo) but the travel length of the buttons suck. When pressed they go below the tackpad so people like me who have hammer thumbs(widehttp://forum.notebookreview.com/images/smilies/mad.gif) I end up touching the touchpad causing the cursor to jump.

I have to agree. I finally found one at Staples last week and, aside from the touchpad being really glossy, the loose/wobbly buttons were rather annoying. I don't really use the buttons all that much, but if nothing else, they don't look very good when they're sitting there all cock-eyed. Kind of brings down the otherwise slick look of the machine. But I'll probably still get one, so....

i work at compusa and that seems like the major/only flaw I could find too the mouse buttons seem plasticy/cheap and seem like after time of using they would become a problem, anyone know if the keyboards have been improved on this model either? like sticking keys etc?

If they're not, I'd be surprised. All the machines I've seen the buttons are crap.

On a side note, I processed a return on mine since the left button is worthless. The support guy said it was his 2nd return because of faulty touchpad buttons. He tried to reassure me that it shouldn't be a problem now that they are "in their 2nd run of production".....whatever..... If my replacement doesn't live up to expectations I'm switching over to a business model from Dell or an Asus. I'll report back in 10 days or so once I get my replacement from China.

Well, I received mine yesterday and the right button in the mouse has this problem. You have to really push it down for it to work. That su#cks because the first one I bought didn't have this problem. I guess I'll be replacing my lappy for the third time. I'm not ready to give up on HP. :) Besides the first replacement was because of me since I wanted the better video card. :)

My mouse buttons work just fine. They feel a little loose, but the usability is not impacted.

I have a recent dv2000t, I guess you could say mine feel "loose" too, the left corner of the right mouse button sticks up slightly. However, both buttons work great, they are responsive and make a quiet click noise when depressed.

However, about 95% of the time I have been using an external mouse so those buttons haven't really been a concern for me.

    Lucky! :D

I'm not holding my breath. My luck is the worst, so I anticipate another faulty button and having to go through the hassle of a return/refund/research/repurchase/rejoice process.

Quick update. I got my replacement yesterday and the mouse buttons on this touchpad are working just fine. My XP reinstall went great and I'm pleased with this unit so far. Hopefully I'll only have good things to report about this lappy going forward.

On a side note, HP Support was stellar during the return process. So, to those that experience crappy support from them, what can I tell you. Sometimes when your nice to someone they're nice in return. I never yell at or blame the tech support or sales teams for the quality/issues of the hardware (and I'm NOT implying people do that  ). During both my calls I was put on hold only to have them come back and tell me they're giving me discounts on shipping, credits, and free upgrades since I had to go through a return process. Not bad.

My mouse buttons are fine, thank god, but unfortunately, the audio is messed up on my notebook, I have just posted a thread on it. I just may have to do an exchange...
