Hi guys,
after a long time I finally managed to get my Envy 14. Unfortunately does my trackpad stick out a little on the right side, around 0,5 mm. But it seems to be enough that it touches the screen when the lid is closed ( i could see some grease traces on the screen). Now I'm afraid that over the time the touchpad will scratch the screen ( as I have seen it quite often). Does anyone have an idea how to adjust the touchpad and lower it ? The manual doesn't really show how to fix or replace the touchpad.
Thank you guys.
Enrico

you could complain and get a new one with new hardware haha.
Im not sure, there should be a guide to taking it off somewhere. It may sound crude and probably wont work but you could put a slither of paper in there.
Don't trust me though -

have the same problem. if you push down on the trackpad in a certain area it'll stay down for a minute or two.. but honestly i couldnt tell you -
Sounds like it may just need to be screwed down tighter.
-
can anyone confirm that it can be screwed down? I'd like to confirm that before I go taking my laptop apart.. -
I can do the same with my trackpad .. when I push it down hard and it stays there for a while and then slowly comes up again. For me thats supports the glue-theory.
Some people have been fiddling around with their keyboards ... they must have had a look at the trackpad too ... -
where do you think i can i get a kit for laptop disassembly?

This is exactly the issue I'm having with my ENVY 17 which I bought a couple of days ago. And it is the upper-right side too. Have you been able to fix it?
I'm thinking about returning mine, but I'm afraid the store may not have a replacement, and I need the laptop. -
I had about ~0.2 MM's of trackpad stick on the right side, and what I did was I took apart the laptop until I got to the palmrest assembly. Then, there's 2 screws holding down the trackpad.
Take the trackpad off, and there are 2 "arms" that the trackpad uses as both springs and hinges. Slighly bend the affected arm down or up, and keep re-fitting the trackpad and re-bending until you have the height just right.
After that, make sure to align the trackpad up right before you screw everything back together.
I'm pretty sure that all Synaptic ClickPads have the same "arms," but this method is worth a try on the Envy 17. -
Big thx man ... Do you think that i could break something when I fix it ? Are the "arms" ductile or brittle ? According to the manual it shouldn't be that difficult to disassemble the palm-top.
I think I'm gonna give it a try next weekend. -
The arms seem to be made of spring steel. It's spot-welded onto the main underbody of the trackpad. I don't think it should break really easily, if you really really tried hard I suppose you may be able to bend it too much...
It's not too easy to bend. Just barely easy enough so that you can change the height a little at a time. -
well i tried the above procedure and bent the hinge down so the trackpad would be flush with the body (which it is) but now it doesn't work at all.
UPDATE: eafd's method works. my trackpad is now flush with the body. I just forgot to plug the trackpad sensor thing back in and flip the hinge down. weird. -
Just did this fix myself - much better now. Thanks for the tips.
