This HP Pavillion has a problem that I think could be corrected by updating the BIOS. Specifically, when you shut the computer down (and the power shuts off) it automatically reapplies power after about 5 seconds. It has done this ever since I bought the computer new. To actually make the power stay turned off I hold the power button down for about 5 seconds after it has automatically turned itself back on. There seems to be no other way to turn the power off. The BIOS setup menus don't include any setting associated with power removal and it can't be the OS that's causing the problem. Therefore I assume the BIOS has a bug.

I've never flashed BIOS on a laptop. Desktops use a floppy disk for flashing BIOS. My dv2000t has no floppy drive - though I do have a USB floppy I could use. I assume BIOS flashing is done using a bootable CD disk. I haven't yet tried to find a download for flashing this dv2000t. I am totally in the dark as to how to flash BIOS on a laptop. Can someone educate me on flashing BIOS on this Pavillion laptop? TIA. Bill S.

No, flashing is now done in Windows via Winflash.

You just download the BIOS from the HP driver page, and run it like a normal program. It will prompt you to do stuff like close all unecessary programs, plug in the AC power, turn off Anti virus programs and unplug all external devices.

It should take about 2mins to complete and the notebook will restart itself.

Make sure you do not interrupt while it is flashing as bad flash can brick your notebook useless.
