Pick up your power brick (while the computer is on) and listen to it.

Does it make a buzzing/hissing noise? As if a teapot and an electrical grid is whistling and buzzing?

Mine is doing that and I'm a bit scared...

Just about any laptop power brick does that. Even my laptop's 200W one. Don't be worried.

BTW just watched your unboxing video @ Youtube.

Only be worried about a hissing power brick if it's audibly hissing without you having to listen to/for it. As Jstn7477, there's usually a soft hissing. If it's louder than that, it may mean the power brick's being overworked or might be failing.

It's... screeching. I cant hear it but about 2 feet away from it though. It's the screeching that scares me.

Want me to try to record it with my mic?

mine does it too. but i cant hear it unless i pick it up it up and pull it closer. if im right next to it yes it does sound like screeching. the only thing i dont like is that once i hear it, i cant stop hearing it otherwise i wouldnt even notice lol as long as its on the ground and not on the same level as me i cannot hear it :) btw i also watched your video on youtube. it was very good. i really would like to see the games section though, especially bioshock. if you could in the little sidebar on youtube just make sure to put what settings you are running at and maybe even throw in the FPS. awesome job though. it was funny when you would be talking about some component on the dv7 and then would just be like "whatever"

Just a quick note: I have an NX9420 (very sweet machine), and the original 90W Smart Adapter made a similar high-pitched whining noise days before it died. Having it happen well within the first year was disconcerting, but at least it was covered by warranty.

I have a mild suspicion that if the noise is as bad as you say it is, the adapter might be on its last legs.

the power supply on my dv7t just gets very very hot to the point where i cant really hold and squeeze it because it's so hot. i'ts more noticible when im gaming but still thought it's odd that it gets soo hot. i didnt notice any whining sounds though.

aside : why the hell is another power cord $79.99 via hp.com? i wanted another one but when i saw the price, i was like w t f!

The AC Adapter can get very warm, so warm that I actually use it for something other than just providing power to my notebook. However, I wish not to mention the other use to protect my reputation. :) :)
