For those with Synaptics TouchStyk (trackpoint), any way to enable middle button scrolling?

    Hi all,

Just purchased an hp 2510p ultralight coming from my old and venerable ThinkPad T23. I love the IBM UltraNav trackpoint and ability to scroll with the trackpoint while pressing the middle button--supremely efficient, hands never leave the keyboard.

Still getting used to the 2510p, and would love it even more if I could get middle button scrolling with the touchstyk to work. There is no physical 3rd button on the laptop, but I have seen a virtual middle button when both left and right buttons are pressed on other notebooks. Also, in the synaptics driver for the 2510p there is an option for" scroll with pointing device when middle button is pressed." Sadly pressing both mouse buttons on the 2510p does nothing. So I just need to emulate the middle button somehow.

Anybody know a way of doing this?

Just ran into the same problem with a HP 6930p. Still no solutions?

There seems to be a solution out there for Ubuntu Linux, where you can press and hold the right mouse button and the scroll function for the touchstyk is enabled after a user-controllable time (e.g., 200 ms). Right-click is still possible that way. It would be perfect to have this on Windows, too. Without scroll function the styk is rather useless for me...

    Thanks

    R.

    Goto:
Run and type in Regedit and thn browse to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\Defaults\ -- here create a new key as a DWORD and name it as 'HasBothButtonFeature' without the quotes and set the value to 1. Log off and Log on again and viola, u have middle click by pressing left and right buttons.

I have tried and tested this solution and it works on my dv5t

That's nice but I haven't found a way to tap two fingers to activate a middle click on the touchpad. Pity HP doesn't do it and my old MSI had this feature.

Check the synaptics settings for it. Go to your control panel, and find the settings for mouse (hardware>mouse). go to the device settings tab, highlight synaptics touch pad, and click settings, and just mess around with various things in there. You can even set a corner to middle click instead of having to push both buttons. hot corners on the mouse pad is pretty nifty. But to answer your question directly, go to "Virtual scrolling" on the left hand side on the window, and just check "enable horizontal scrolling"

Ah, thanks SDreamer that did the trick for side scrolling. +1 rep. But what is a middle click? Is it like when you click on the scroll wheel on a mouse?
