Well I installed Vista today after having some problems with my XP MCE.
How do you get the Blue Quickplay Buttons to work(FF, Play, Pause, DVD, Q)? How can i program the Q and DVD to do something different?? I dont seem to have the same toolbar program like in XP.
Also the Webcam??? I installed the drivers but what software can i use to work with it? In XP I just used the Image and Scanner built in.
Thats it for right now.
Thanks,
Dan

What brand of notebook are you using and the model number? I am assuming you are talking about the HID hotkeys on the laptop.
-
I am running HP dv6000t.
I got the Fast Forward to work, but I would like to reprogram the Q and DVD to do a different function.
I am really concerned with the Webcam. Still cant get that to work in any program..... -

""This package contains software that enables customers to program Quick Launch Buttons on the keyboard and the external Easy Access Buttons Keyboard.""
This should be what you are looking for to program your hotkeys and it is the Vista version from the HP website.

Hope these help... -
Just to let you know I have the dv2000z model and the webcam does not activate though on the hardware list it shows that it's there. I've tried multiple times to install/uninstall and it still doesn't work. The webcam doesn't activate when I use Outlook with the video message. Went back to XP until the problem is fixed.

Sadly programing the HID in vista is not possible.
Complain to HP to add to the list of other customers who are complaining about it. Maybe they'll get of they're backsides and do something about it!
-
I'm not sure if you can program the Q and DVD buttons yet...I expect this'll be fixed in a future release.
-
No you can't, I hope they fix it soon -
The latest version(6.10B) of Quicklaunch buttons software does not support changing the default programs for the quickplay, DVD/Music buttons. Unfortunately only this version is officially Vista compatible. If you do need the option of programing the Quickplay buttons then try using the older version(6.10A) and running it in compatibility mode in vista.

I still cant get the webcam going.
I installed the drivers from this site, and in Device Manager, i have HP Webcam listed.
If i go into Windows Movie Maker and go to Import from Digital Camera, says none available.
Any other help??
Webcam is the main concern now. -
In quickplay i see its listed but cant get any image from it.
-
Anyone? Comeon help me out, calling HP didn't do anything but get me annoyed.
-
Sorry, man. The Vista webcam drivers have so many issues right now, it's ridiculous. We're all in a similar boat. Even if you got an image from it, the recording speed is all screwed up and only works intermitantly. It's really not useable for anyone.
If you look in the HP Vista Drivers thread here (the stickied one) you'll see TONS of people complaining about webcam issues, and you may find some ideas from people on how to get a sorta-working webcam. Just be prepared... there's not a lot you can do, and if after uninstalling/reinstalling/manually updating the driver until it eventually kinda works, it still likely won't work well, and may stop working again at any time. Great news, huh!
And, I just saw you called HP. I'm sorry, man. That's always a painful experience. Did they blame you for their stuff not working? Usually they claim that you shouldn't have bought a retail version of Vista, and that their "magical" OEM versions are the only ones that work. It's nonsense, but they really just want you off the line. -
Yeah I called, they tried to say it was the Vista version fault, i tried to argue but I guess I spoke to fast for them. It was just horrible listening to there broken english.
I mean I dont get how they sell the new computers, does the webcam just not work in the updated dv6000t or does it? If it does they must have a fix on it, or some drivers.
I dont really use the webcam, but sometimes i do its convient, kinda beat, im gonna call 2morrow and see if i can get somewhere, if not im gonna tell them i will return the laptop unless they give me a refund of atleast the price of the webcam.
I asked to speak to the supervisor and I get hung up on =/ I cant even use the chat on the website, doesn't seem to work. Does teh chat work on the hp website?? -
The chat on the HP website usually works, however the people type even slower than they talk (and the Englsh is often just as broken).
And the webcam issues seem to be plaguing pretty much everyone, regardless of when they got their system. Other hardware issues (like the dv2000t audio issue) HP tried to get around by silently updating the hardware in new systems, but as far as I know, all the systems have webcam issues.
Good luck... but I would save my energy and sanity... then again, I've spent the last several months trying to get people's notebooks working with Vista, and trying to get HP to get some proper drivers out for their machines. I'm so exhausted from the whole experience of dealing with HP (and having to download every new driver posted to their ftp just to see if any of them were Vista drivers for notebooks) that I am more likely to sell my notebook for scrap parts if I ever have a major issue, rather than deal with HP's "support" again. Maybe that's their goal? -
Well i just reinstalled the drivers, and in quickplay i took pictures and video. But where exactly are the files stored? I made a quick movie, but no idea where it is stored on the computer.
I still haven't tried it in trillian, it use to work in that, but i read on here that sometimes after loading it in another program it messes up?? Well it doesn't work in Windows Movie Maker either.
Whats a program I can use to acquire both video and pictures from the webcam??? -
Umm... Quickplay's the only thing that pops directly to mind. I know Windows Messenger works, but not sure about its recording capabilities...
Windows Movie Maker requires a camera to be recognized in a specific way. It's all a little confusing, but the type of driver HP is using in Vista for the webcam prevents applications like Movie Maker from being able to use it.
I don't really use my webcam. Hopefully someone else knows more on this... and where Quickplay stores it's files. I assumed you could pick the directory... but I don't really know.
Anyway, I've got to get some sleep. I have to go to the airport in four hours, so... hopefully someone can be of more help than me for the moment. -
Anyone know where HP Quickplay stores the pictures and video????
Formatted with Vista, Few questions
