    Hey guyies,
I just formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Vista from the Recovery Disks I had burnt, but surprisingly all the software that came with the hp, installed again like nOrton, Microsoft WOrks. The normal bloatware. Anyone know how i can do a clean install of Windows Vista Premium or is it impossible. Btw I dont want to buy any new CD for WIndows Vista or anything as such.
    Thanks

I know how, but can't post it here.

That's the thing with OEM computers. People paid for the operating system, but get a bloatware version instead, even on the recovery partition and DVDs.

The manufacturers claim the bloatware lowers costs, which it does.

Unless you've got a friend with an extra copy of Vista, or XP laying around, the only way to do it is to buy a clean OS yourself and start over. Otherwise you have to remove the bloatware one piece at a time with the add/remove programs.

Try using the guide in my sig.

Anytime upgrade DVDs are $5 if you didn't get one with the system.

It's not illegal to do a clean install. You paid for the system which included a copy of the OS.

Buy it from Microsoft.com, select a version of Vista, and choose to have them send you the Anytime Upgrade discs. Then goto your cart and delete the copy of vista. The Anytime Upgrade discs should stay in your cart and you will only be charged shipping.

My laptop DV2416US laptop did NOT come with any disks. However, if I click on start->programs->Extras and Upgrades, there is a program called Windows Anytime Upgrade. This might be what ya'all are looking for, see if it is on your HP laptop.

    Maybe you use/burn it.

Yes, that's what it's meant for.

It is also a Vista install disc, which they don't really tell you. It doesn't matter though, unless you have a valid license key.

isnt that kind of a loophole in microsoft... because that way i would just get the home premium and then buy a any time upgrade dvd and go for ultimate.. is this right? or am i missing something?

You need a valid license key or it will lock down after 30 days.

Yes, you're missing something. You would need to buy a license for ultimate from MS. The license is the serial number you type in during install, and that determines which version of vista gets installed.
