I Found an Awesome How-to:

Easily Remove the DV6000T & DV9000T Wireless Card Blacklist.
So you can use any wireless card you want, not just the $$ ones from HP!

Maybe this will improve my bad reputation?

I found this and wanted to share it with everyone, before I misplaced the link, like usually.

This applies to any of the DV6000T & DV9000T series laptops and perhaps others ...
You only had to locate offset 0x1505 in your BIOS, where you will find an $F9, corresponding to an stc instruction.
Change the $F9 to $F8 (clc).
That's it. Now the whitelist check will always pass. Sweet!
Read the instructions he provides ...

Notice, the F.16 BIOS he is editing for the DV6000T is exactly the same F.16 BIOS download for the DV9000T.
Check the Softpaq, check the link to your BIOS download. They are the same.

That might depend on whether or not anyone "bricks" their laptops! lol

The reason I say that is atleast "some" HP laptops check the bios checksum. Changing just the one bit will change your checksum. You would need to change another somewhere so that your "modified" bios still has the same checksum as the original.

Well, it worked fine for that other guy.
Just changing a 9 to an 8, or whatever. That's a very small change.

 

I would like to install a Intel 4965 A/G/N Wireless mini PCI-E Card in my DV9000t. Does anyone know if the method posted below works FOR SURE? Has anyone tried it?

Also, if this does work, would someone be kind enough to post an already modified F.16 Bios for the DV9000t that works and was tested. That would be awesome for us peeps that aren't familiar with Hex editing and such.

If anyone wants to rewrite/reformat the procedure, feel free. Maybe it will get stickied. I'm sure I'll be looking for this information when I upgrade this baby to Wireless N. I would attempt the procedure personally, but I have no way to see if it worked without having a wireless N card. If someone wants to mail me a wireless N, I'll be glad to run a test for you in exchange for keeping the card.

The guy who wrote the procedure tested it and it worked for him.

 

One thing though... I could not find any mention of installing a third antenna for the intel 4965 wireless N card. any word of knowledge on that? Is it needed? What will the 3rd antenna do? etc...

Last week I successfully replaced the 3945ABG card on my DV9040T with a Dell 1500 Draft 11N card using the firmware hack.
Have noticed no issues till now. The Dell card however has only 2 antenna connections and fits perfectly.
You can get a Dell 11500 Draft 11N off ebay for about $35-$45

 

That fantastic, if I will be able to get it to work in Linux as the Intel does?

 

Linux is supposed to run real sweet on it.

Instructions from the Thread:

Use HexIt to edit BIOSCOD4.ROM, found in C:\Program Files\Phoenix Technologies Ltd\BIOS Editor\Temp, where it unpacks the BIOS. At offset 0x1505 you will find an $F9, corresponding to an stc instruction. Change the $F9 to $F8 (clc). That's it. Now the whitelist check will always pass. Save the file.

I need to change the 9 to an 8, but when I choose edit with WinHex on this number and choose to modify the block data, there are a lot of choices in there and I don't know what to do?

 

use Hexit. its fast and easy. you would need to type F8 on top of F9 as only single character cannot be edited. u have to edit the first char F in this case and then type 8 on 9

 

so how is the progress so far? I have not got the 4965 card from intel yet nor do I have time at the moment to go through the editing bios process, however, I am willing to help in any way I can and supporting you. Please let us know how far you have gotten and what has workednot worked. Maybe once thats complete, we can post a step by step guide and make it a sticky.

have a atheros card but a dv9000z any1 have any clues on how to make this work on my system???? there isn't a v.16 bios for the AMD models (v.17 and up instead)

 

I recently found on another site somewhere that someone found this tread on notebookreview.com and performed the small bios edit and it worked perfectly on his dv9000t.

Hey guys, i have a dv9010us. Seems this hack is meant for the bios for Intel chips. Anyone know what needs to be changed for us AMD folks? I've looked at all the BIOS for mine that starts F.17 on up to F.27 and the 1500 or 1505 offset contain no line with F9 in it.

It looks like it'll work on both Intel and AMD notebooks.

Greg, where is the reference to Mac os x in this thread? we are talking about using any wireless card on our hp laptops. I don't see anything illegal here. It's my computer I paid for it, I can smash it if I want... he he

 

This thread has been invaluable in solving the problem of getting an Intel 4965AGN wifi card to be recognized in my HP Pavilion dv9207us. The only caveat is that it took me 6 or 7 flashes to figure out that Vista was corrupting the compiled BIOS image. I'm not sure if it's because the BIOS editor wasn't designed for Vista or because I have 4GB of memory, but every compile resulted in a different CRC. Once I figured that out, compiling it in XP worked perfectly.

However I'm still having a problem getting the card to work in Vista. I get an Error 10 cannot power on. I've tried several driver versions and Vista allows me to set the options, but still won't turn on.

Is this just a bad card or does the Intel 4965AGN only work with Core 2 Duo processors? I am still using the T2250 Core Duo that came with the system because if you've tried it, you'll know you have to COMPLETELY disassemble the system to change the processor.

I would be greatful for any information someone can provide either way.

I wouldn't mind having a copy of your working newly compiled bios for my own dv9200us. I don't have a Intel 4965AGN yet, so unfortunately I can't help you get it turned on. Did you use that new F.2B bios for Intel Processors? It Resolves an intermittent issue where the 1394 port malfunctions. I can post the bios to rapidshare for anyone else who would like a copy. I downloaded my copy here:
