Well you have to bid for it so no guarantees. But you have to ask yourself if you need the latest and greatest or is this sufficient if not a little more than sufficient for your needs.

I was also wondering about the graphics card refreshes getting the new 6000 radeons and if they would be gimped like the previous GPU.

High probability of gimpage. Heat is a big concern with HP.

I have a new (open) radiance Envy 14 for sale (i5-580m, 8gb, 500gb). I got it for my girlfriend and she decided instead to get an apple. I told her no problem since they were selling like hotcakes. Unfortunately I just put in hardwood floors in my house and all the commotion made me forget about it. It was purchased mid-February and was used for less than a week. In perfect condition. The box is open and kind of banged up but that's just the cardboard. Everything else is new. Warranty is unregistered.

I'll be putting it up on ebay but PM me if you'd like to make an offer.

The Envy 17 SB is gimped.
The HD 6850m is clocked at 575 mhz core, and 900 mhz memory (standard iirc).

It should be clocked at 650 mhz core and 900 mhz memory.

I am unsure about the Envy 14

Envy 17 3D SB is running the GPU at 575/900. According to Notebookcheck ( AMD Radeon HD 6850M - Notebookcheck.net Tech ) its core speed is either 575 or 675, while its not running at its max speed its not gimped like the older Envy 17 which was running 500/900.

Actually the 6850M is worse than the downclocked 5850M in RAM (900 GDDR5 vs. 800 GDDR 5) but it does get a core clock boost. Weird how that works.

Actually its 900 MHz (not 800 MHz) for the GDDR5 on the Envy 17 3D SB ( techPowerUp GPU-Z Validation v9dr3) which is on page five of the Envy 17 3D SB thread credit goes to Fiver5 for the info.

hmm well 900 mhz** should perform considerably better then the current HD 5850.

When compared to the HP Envy 17 version. I am sure the MXM versions are still far superior. At least you guys got a chance to overclock them (if the Voltages are not nerfed).

Get it if you can. I've held off on upgrading even though I bought my E14 with radiance for only $500 after cashbacks. No way on Earth I'm giving up my display.

Thanks guys. I really don't think the replacement displays, if any are in the works, will be better than the radiance. I have only seen one once in person mind you, but it was plenty bright and vivid. The GPU will just be a slight upgrade for future iterations I guess. Off to bidding I go.

Good luck. :) The current bid is $710, still worth it at this point! Lol.

Yep. I'm sure you can find laptops with better displays. But if you want all the package of goodies, the Envy is tough to beat--especially after you apply reil's touchpad fixes.

Agree with this, except the part about finding laptops with better displays - for remotely this price point. Now...

I know I'm not supposed to use this thread as a For Sale vehicle, but I do have an Envy 14 with Radiance, i5-520, 4 or 8 GB RAM, a Seagate Momentus 500 GB HDD or brand new Samsung 256 GB SSD, and, though I acquired it as a refurb (one month ago), it is in absolutely mint, perfect, like brand new condition. For reasons not worth going into now (thank you HP!), I have the original new Envy box and accessories that come with it, including a second battery and power supply. I am looking for between $1,200 and $1,500 for it, depending on the config chosen. People here know me well as far as rep goes, maybe even a mod whose handle is a number ;).

I was about to eBay it and got ill and had to postpone. I still have the opportunity to return it to HP for a refund, but I wold rather it go to a good home here, and yes, make a few (not gouging) bucks here. Please PM me if interested.

BTW, the only reason I'm selling it is because, since I bought it, I have incurred some financial difficulties and have been liquidating my inventory of (admittedly excessive) wonderful notebook pcs. This is, as you all know a wonderful computer with an unequaled display anywhere near the price point - which is why I bought it.

(Ok, very long story semi-short: ordered and received one of the January Radiance models, it came with a bad display, sent it in for replacement, fell into the Radiance black hole, got offered an 8540w equipped to the nines - including DC2 screen - coming supposedly this week - and found this awesome E14 on the HP Business Outlet so decided to go for it, sell the 8540w when/if it arrives. Then came health/financial issues and decided to sell all but one of my primo laptops. This is the last one.)

I don't need/want SB upgrade and know from experience w/HP that it will be months after announcement that they will have them readily in stock to ship, then months more until the early problems will be rectified, then a few months more before they will be getting those great coupon discounts. I'm convinced there will not be a display of this caliber on the refresh or on any other comparably price laptop - well, maybe ever. You can easily supply your own RAM or SSD, so you can buy a truly exceptional machine for as little as $1,200, less than any have sold for on eBay, probably ever, but definitely since the Radiance debacle of Jan/Feb 2011.

Thanks for your consideration. PM me if you have any interest at all - we can talk.

Sorry, I didn't see your post until just now. I would give you my email, but really don't want to "publish" it hear. Can you make a few more posts so you can PM me? You can ask any questions you may have in any of the Envy threads, and if you change your mind about a post, you can just save it, then go to it and hit "Edit" in the lower right, and delete it (the post remains, just with no text) and just say "sorry, wrong thread for this post" I'm not advocating that you do that just to increase post count, but if you're new at this, it's pretty easy to post to the wrong forum, or post a question that you then see has already been asked and anwered ;)
