I have a hp omnibook 500 that freezes at random times, sometimes it goes for up to 4 hours then it freezes, sometimes it only goes 5 minutes. It usually freezes when I scroll down in an application. I would appreciate it if someone could help me figure out why it is freezing, and if there is a way to fix it.

It only freezes when you are scrolling?

It stays frozen, and usually the next time I try to boot it up, instead of seeing the HP logo, all I see is a screen that fades from black to white, then it fades to a dark blue color.

It doesn't freeze when I am using linux, so i suspect it is a windows problem

the laptop didn't freeze under windows 2000 either, and i think it could be a problem with Intel speedstep

I think the speedstep driver is built into XP.

yeah speedstep is a built-in driver

what about RAM, how much of do you have?

also what about your video driver, is it the latest and working well?

i used to find that if i dont install the video driver, whenever i scroll it doesnt tend to be smooth.
